I don't think that doom is some masterpiece that can never be topped but I can't see the appeal of having 3 weapons (each of which becomes obsolete once you find the next), levels consisting of the same generic flat hallways, and the only real interesting encounters being in the form of bossfights, not to mention everything is so fucking slow
I can appreciate it came first and it was ambitious and all but that doesn't mean playing it today isn't boring
