I definitely see your problem. Personally as much as I've always despised trope-y anime and the likes I've never minded KyoAni, A Silent Voice is one of the very few animes I'd rate 10/10.

I just flat out disagree with saying KyoAni's shows are relying on situation because even that falls into the "make the situation as cute as possible even if it logically makes no sense whatsoever". I like their animation's fluidity but it's always sort of wasted on the shit that matters the least. Compare them to SHAFT for just a second who do the opposite: their backgrounds are ARTSY bullshit because it's cheaper and puts resources into making the characters animated better. Well i'd say that in a visual medium it's nice to have beautiful visuals. Makoto Shinkai has been getting away with this with far less interesting characters and situations than KyoAni, just because his animu are always absolutely gorgeous.
