Be yourself, be a troll, whatever, it doesn't matter today or tomorrow.

That's the best advice. Nothing matters, therefore, either don't matter or choose to matter somehow.

Even if you fail, everything will more or less continue on the way it was going to; your involvement is just your way of touching life, other people, and saying you were there- but your signature, I think, is more important.

There should be no other folders because you shouldn't extract the contents of the .iso.

You've downloaded a .iso file, and you use Universal USB Installer which Hu linked to put the .iso into your flash drive. No other files or folders should be involved in the process.

Don't. If you really don't like it, and it it makes your computer feel less responsive (minus I/O which will be slower currently), then you can just unplug your flash drive and go back to using Windows as you always did. If you do install it however, you'll be left with Grub and if you later choose to just wipe Linux without doing anything with Grub, you'll probably be left with a computer which can't boot into an OS

He's stuck on a https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/pentium/j3710.html using just the iGPU and Windows is running very slow.

Trying a lightweight yet feature-rich DE on a well-supported distribution is worth a try, no? It's not going to be installed, just run off a flash-drive for now.

If he absolutely hates it, then no harm done. If things feel more smooth and the UI isn't too hostile, it could be installed alongside Windows with a 20GB partition or so.

But it's all up to him. Just thought it was worth a try.

I know my netbook ran significantly faster with this than it did with Windows 7 and XP. A lot more responsive and way more smooth
