Guitar Hero had a couple interesting unlocks from bands I hadn't heard from in years like Freezepop and that's where I heard Less Talk More Rokk for the first time.

Also playing Interpol songs on bass in Guitar Hero was a good point in my life, at that point I played a real bass but I didn't expect Interpol in the game and was so hyped.

My god, last year in the summer I had the best seafood chowder I have ever eaten in my life and it had fresh shrimp, clams, and salmon all harvested locally .. and having any 'clam chowders' since have been completely off-putting to me after I had the legit thing.

Well, even in my bad times, I don't want to eat like a hobo.

If all I have is ramen, at least I'll buy some dashi so my broth doesn't taste like an asshole, and I'll get some eggs so I can eggdrop my ramen and get some protein.

Or, if I'm buying $1 bread loaves at the corner store that are 'expired' (never had them mold yet, expiries are just a suggestion) I buy some cheese if it's on sale and make myself yummy grilled cheese sandwiches, or if not, there's the dollar store that has $1 cans of tuna and I can hang onto some cheap mayo for a month and make myself tuna salad sandwiches which are also tasty.

There's no situation where I cannot take ingredients and make something delicious, it is my nature as a cook to have things on hand to spice up or accentuate even the most basic of dishes. Now, these are examples of when I'm really broke but still want to eat well; when I do have money I really go all out sometimes- either actual recipes or inventions.

The good news is; if you buy imitation crab, you're essentially buying into the whiting/pollock industry in Alaska, where the fisheries are 90%+ sustainable and that's why the soft white meat of the fish is used so much as a flavoured crab substitute- it's because it's cheap compared to other fish species which are becoming more rare; prices for tuna are going up, especially for quality tuna (sashimi grade) and not shitty canned tuna (which is basically like a fish hot dog- entrails, bits, whatever isn't choice cuts- good luck wiping that from your memory now) because choice fish still demand high prices.

Oh, but not whiting or pollock. I actually like to put some in my miso or ramen bowls. They're cheap and basic, cheap doesn't mean 'worse' at all, it's just abundant and modern with a high return at low cost compared to traditional fisheries.
