The rhythm video games are alright because of the gameplay, but the rest of it can fuck off. Idols are literally whores. They might not be having sex for money but they're still selling their body because P-san controls their entire life. And the 2D version is almost as shit as 3DPD.

Absolutely disgusting. Just hypocrisy. "cheerful, wholesome girls" they are not. They're either in it for the money and lying to everyone with their act, or puppets on a rich guy's string. What do you gain by putting an ideal version of your nation's women on display for everyone? Respect? No. You gain hordes of ronery failures jerking off in their darkened bedrooms, and their money. If the girls were truly wholesome then I'd rather see them walking down the street hanging onto the arm of an equally wholesome man in a happy relationship that will result in the gainful continuation of their race. Whores do not put a smile on my face. Genuinely happy people do.

The 2D idol is a shallow being, because they come in large groups whose members adhere strictly to a handful of personality archetypes to fill out a roster, guaranteeing that they have something for everyone and the show/manga/game will attract as many men as possible. Works rarely build meaningful character interactions when the "main" group of characters is so large. They're all just there to fill a certain stereotype. Unfortunately, the vast majority of any audience is stupid enough to fall for this and that's why these things sell ridiculously well. They don't want characters with any depth. This is the method that MLP Friendship is Magic used to gain huge success.
Except even MLP eventually developed the characters beyond their archetypes with interesting twists.
