I don't mind if it's in an ecchi or comedy show or any type of show that made it clear that it was not trying to present a serious plot anyway but if a show tries to tell a serious story and then suddenly an unfunny scene revolving around boobs get thrown in it makes it feel like the creators were afraid that the things they were already doing with their show was not enough to make some quick cash so they had to put that in to keep people watching.
The type of fanservice is also important, scenes where a male MC accidentally sees a pair of tits and then the female character screams and punches him is just so fucking cliche and unfunny in the slightest that it's enough for me to drop a show.

I don't mind fanservice in itself, but showing off scantily clad girls is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to entertaininment. It's incredibly easy and will always work for most audeinces. I'm usually watching anime for some kind of story or plot progression, and when fanservice happens, it's almost always antithetical to what I'm trying to get, because fanservice is usually a crutch to make the show interesting when it's not. The problem is usually more prominent in newer shows, since most anime at this point is only trying to get horny otakus to buy dressup figurines, when any sort of character moment or plot is always accompanied by a girl bending over and a "BWONG" sound effect.

It's usually because of normalfags that take on a casual interest in anime. They have this "cool" new hobby, but it's also full of "embarrassing" lewd stuff.
