There's works where the MC gets betrayed by his own ideals. Mostly it's the MC getting betrayed by his friends or the people he swore to protect, but it makes the MC question these ideals or abandons them. It's usually dark or edgy works.

Listen don't be like that. Attack On Titan is a great example of something that is popular and overrated while Fate is an example of something that is popular but actually is worthy of the title. I also watched Naruto all the way through especially through Shippuden and honestly it's not as bad as you would think. You just have to give things a try sometimes otherwise you will miss out on so many good things and opportunities in life.

While I didn't even give Naruto a try (there's an age where that kind of shows don't really get a try for me, if the protag is an annoying fagboy, same thing with NGE that I watched halfway regardless), I did give Fate one. I've read a few dozens of hours of the VN, watched the original series, its remake and Zero, and also Prisma Illya. Only liked the latter, and only its manga, up to the point that it turned into regular Fate for far too long.

As for the earlier ones, no Illya route, and she being the "cheap sacrifice and the one killed in most humiliating ways" was enough to outright hate it, and regret giving time of my life to that franchise.

That won't change how the franchise is literally best described as Chuuni-shit. I could say "pandering to edgy teens who love powerlevel flinging", but that's much longer, and by far not as accurate.

The only thing that was almost good coming out of that franchise is Prisma Illya, but only the manga, and only the earlier chapters, so even that's pretty underwhelming and a disappointment.

No, not yet, but I'm sure my ideals will betray me one of these days,

as I am not the type that should be following it.
