I think they call them light novel because the writing quality was heavily reduced.

From those I gave a quick glance, it made me think a middleschooler wrote that crap.

So yes, adding pretty pictures to detract from that is surely an improvement, no matter how small

I will agree that the anime is inferior to the original novels for the case of this series. Because the former do not go into nearly as much detail about the scifi dystopia and intentions and inner thoughts of each character. Also both anime adaptations omit certain supporting characters completely and are extremely pornographic.

However, the original print of the novels came with QUALITY artwork.
