Germany had been an ally of Italy twice before WW2 yet the latter proved to be really incompetent in war most of the time. It takes a unique kind of stupidity for someone in Germany to think of allying with Italy for the third time. People then may proceed to a conclusion that Hitler is to blame for this strategic failure.
But should we be surprised about this tendency, really? As soon as the Germans stopped allying with Nationalist China to ally with Imperialist Japan in WW2 they turned their backs on the nationalistic ideals they claim to protect.
Thanks to that decision, Nationalist China was forced to fight against both Japan and Communist China, indirectly making the former lost and ironically strengthen the power of worldwide communism.

But where the Jews should go to? That's the question. It was a strategic failure.
Palestine? Jews that moved out of Germany preferred that place, and indeed Germans were willing to force them on that place too. But then the Germans angered the Brits so much that a they prevented Jews from entering Palestine, with a good reason (Would you let people from your enemies' country enter your own territory?)

There were many Jews dead, but to say that Germans were not responsible for their death is just unfair.
The Jews that remained in German-controlled territories (mostly poor ones, the others moved with their own money or connections like Einstein) did not have privileges as much as German citizens and most were forced into labor camps until the end of the war, making them still under protection and responsibility of the Germans. Then when WW2 got a lot more intense in the 40s, food supply chain to the Jews' camps were cutoff by the Allies and Germans failed to restore it. Those Jews were casualties made out of negligence.
