Is there any franchise that got ruined harder than Darker Than Black? After a first season that was hugely popular and created a detailed world with near infinite possibilities for storytelling, they created a bland OVA that no one really cared about, and then fucked everything up with a second season the turned the show into a magical girl show and depowered the main character, making sure no one could ever write another story with him again.

They have 50 cent ice cream though, and their double cheeseburgers are good for what they are when you're on the road

Key reason, along with Eureka Seven, to not trust Bones to put out a new season/sequel of an original anime worth a damn. Space Dandy being something of an exception, but if memory serves, it was intended from the start as two cour, not two seasons, so it might not count.

first, "phantom: requiem of the phantom" completely shit the bed after the MC allegedly dies only to be not actually dead and just washes up on the shore somewhere. it would've been such a tragic ending if he would've stayed dead but i guess the creator/director didn't have the balls for that.

second, pic related.

Trinity Blood.

The fucking author died in the middle of the first season.

Father Hugue didn't get enough screen time.

Overlord is the most recent ruining of a franchise, the anime anyway.

The first season in 2015 left everyone begging for more and it was monkey paw'd into a season 2 and 3.

was just referring to how he didn't die when he initially seemed to - after the girl died, he got shot and fell into the ocean, and by all appearances seemed to be dead, until the next episode pops and it turns out he just washed up on a shore somewhere.

if he did end up dying in the end then atleast that's something; i dropped it after two more episodes from the one where he seemed to die.

THE NIGHT SKY FULL OF CRIES

 No.57713

Kinda feel like Battle Angel Alita needs to be mentioned.

The original series was a masterpiece if you ignore the ending by the replacement author.

Last Order picked up where the original author had to leave and started interesting and presented a fresh, big universe for exploration, but then it devolved into an overlenght tournament arc with an overlength flashback arc to stretch the whole thing even further. By the middle point of the series, Alita was a sidecharacter in a series named after her.

And now Mars Chronicles is continuing the trend of flashbacks within flashbacks.

>replacement author

I didn't knew this. I used to follow the manga, but gradually lost interest over time, that's probably the reason. I remember at some point, after having missed a few volumes, I bought the most recent volume at the time, to find out it had become some turbo-rollerskate-battlerace thing, and thought "yeah nah, I don't feel like even trying to find out why and how things got to this point"

 No.57721

>>57714

The rollerskate thing (which was still quite early in the run) was the original authors idea.

The replacment author only did the very end of the series (after Alitas battle with Nova)

I really enjoyed the artstile and early arcs. Somehow felt disinterested as it went by.

All the mystery surrounding SnK was what was driving me to keep reading. After all that was solved my interest went down, then they started focusing on politics and my interest hit rock bottom. What a shame.

 No.57746

They still haven't told us how the first titan-shifter got her power, but I don't really give a damn anymore.

It's not like the story is going anywhere from politics any time soon.

 No.57752

>>57442

The problem with that was that they didn't just skip the shitty novels.

1st volume was great, then it was shit up until the exact moment S3Ep12 started. They should've skipped right ahead to have S2Ep1 be the Emperor going to Ainz after a short prologue, then the grand battle a third through the season, afterwards the novels after that. A full season of Lizardlord was the biggest mistake they made.

Dunno if its any different in the VN or the (untranslated) manga
