Killua put in a lot of work during Chimaera Ant arc. Both Gon and Komugi (and some others) would've definitely been dead without him, which would've changed the series of events dramatically. Where Gon is impulsive, Killua is cunning. Without Killua around the series wouldn't be nearly as fun because there would be no one to analyze possibilities and explain the situation without coming off as overly smart like Kurapika. Case in point, an arc that focuses solely on Killua without Gon is watchable. An arc that focuses solely on Gon without Killua would devolve into standard shonen real fast, same as if the arc focused on Leorio. Killua and Kurapika are the characters that can move arcs forward while still allowing Togashi to go deep into his mindgame battle-autism.
Gon being stated to have had relations with women and fucking them with his alpha shotacock is great. The way he casually talks about it gives him a lot of deviation from standard shonen heroes who are completely oblivious to it.
How did you feel about Pariston and his politicking? The manga arcs to come have a lot of setting up for more of the same political intrigue. If you thought Chimaera Ant arc was too long and that it started too slow (which it did, since it focused a lot on the set up) then I really don't recommend that you read the manga. You'll just get pissed off unless you have a taste for the world buildup and attention to detail. If so far you haven't been sold on HxH, I doubt you'll find reading more of it enjoyable. If you decide not to follow through with it then you should at least read the Chrollo vs Hisoka fight because I think that would actually interest you and it's really good. It starts from chapter 351.

The thing is though that the most significant part was knocking out Gon however the Kind was already dead and Komugi also dies, worst case scenario is the kind killing of the citizen there and then going in a rampage for a few hour until he drops dead, which wouldn't matter story wise, since random citizens were never the point of this arc, even if it seems so. I goes what puts me off about Killua and Kurapika is what you describe as their strength, they seem to lack passion. Its not exactly passion passion though, more like fun. The Phantom Troupe arc wasn't about Kurapika's action that much as it was everybody else's reaction to Kurapika's action, I also enjoyed the whole predator of the predator and then the other main characters at the bottom. The thing to understand about Kite and Gon is that the 2011 anime fucks it up a fair bit. Originally Gon's meeting with Kite is shown at the very beginning of the story. That's significant because the meeting between them is shown as the reason Gon decides to persue being a Hunter or going after his father in the first place. Since he's never met his father or even another Hunter at that point, Kite becomes in his mind the ideal of what a 'Hunter' is, a role model in the same way Ging was said to be to Kite. So I think Gon's breakdown is meant to be more about the image he had built being torn down more than Kite the person.
