Aikatsu is just a cutesy shoujo, then there's fruits basket. I find it funny how some anons mistakenly believe that the Ancient Magus' Bride is a shoujo, when it is in fact a shonen. Love Live is a Seinen.

That was actually what I liked about Shakugan no Shana. The romance subplot was really enjoyable when it wasn't the focus. The romance was advanced by plot happenings a lot of the time. But when the show tried to focus on the romance is always did it shittily

Shoujo is shit, but not all shoujo romance go like that. Ore monogatari! was pretty enjoyable.

I rarely watch shoujo and don't find them enjoyable but there's still some rare good stuff aimed at that demographic. Natsume yuujinchou for example is shoujo written by a woman, and has no faggotry or bad romance. It feels more like a light mixture of what you'd expect from seinen and shoujo.

Let me put it this way:

All the moe comes from the chuunis

But the story also revolves about chuunis having to grow up

So the story has this nice ballance between moe and drama

Characters grow up, and are chuunis no more

Last episode throws a curveball at that, but it can be seen as a way to have closure. You'll know when you see it

Then second season comes, throws all character development out the window, everyone is chuuni again, and the plot is a blueballing generic anime drama.

It's like a bunch of executives sat around a table and wrote the gudelines for a second season

This is why Ore Monogatari isn't shojo. It is manly and romantic. Nanoha directed by Shinbo was the pinnacle of shojo, ironically enough.

This guy is also silly. I can effortlessly name a fuckton of shounen demographic romances that act out and end just as retardedly as your average shoujo-focused book. The ultimate takeaway is Japan cannot into romance. Yes, shoujo is hard on the brain, but almost all of the romance stories across the board are awful.

I'd be inclined to agree, but Josei > 99% of Shounen anime. Josei is a legitimately good genre (Honey and Clover, Paradise Kiss, Saiyuuki Reload and Chihayafuru ( which is not most people's cup of tea, but I liked it)). I think most people watch Nana or something and then get the wrong impression of the genre.
