Aikatsu is just a cutesy shoujo, then there's fruits basket. I find it funny how some anons mistakenly believe that the Ancient Magus' Bride is a shoujo, when it is in fact a shonen. Love Live is a Seinen.

 No.5613

I watched what OP's pic was and that wasn't accurate at all.

Yeah duh, shoujo caters to 3DPD and that's pretty much what their ideal relationship would be like.

Not that guy and I didn't even watch it but from what I know it's basically: male character is a retard, female character is a bitch who starts putting him on a leash to prevent him from getting into trouble. Repeat this formula every episode until some unstatisfying "go read the manga if you want to see more" conclusion is reached.

 No.5643

It got worse when there was a guy clearly trying to provoke the male MC on purpose and the female character just sorta passively accepted his attempted NTR attempts and became friends with him somewhat.

There would be no conflict and story if it was just a nice guy who likes the girl too.

Female tastes are cancerous. It leads to fujobait, NTR, and other such garbage. This is why 3DPD should never be allowed to have their own money, otherwise businesses will start to cater to feminine retardation and pollute an entire industry with absolute dogshit.

That was actually what I liked about Shakugan no Shana. The romance subplot was really enjoyable when it wasn't the focus. The romance was advanced by plot happenings a lot of the time. But when the show tried to focus on the romance is always did it shittily

 No.6345

>>5593

Shoujo is shit, but not all shoujo romance go like that. Ore monogatari! was pretty enjoyable.

I rarely watch shoujo and don't find them enjoyable but there's still some rare good stuff aimed at that demographic. Natsume yuujinchou for example is shoujo written by a woman, and has no faggotry or bad romance. It feels more like a light mixture of what you'd expect from seinen and shoujo.

Wonder what the archetipical female "hero arch" is like? Look at Beauty and the Beast

>Girl finds guy

>He has some qualities, giving him potential, but he's flawed in some way

>Her first challenge is to approach him

>Her second challenge is to help him improve, sometimes seen as "taming" him

>She might impprove herself along this step, but that is optional, and might just mean "gain some cool new quality" like a superpower or a visual change for the better

>He is now a better person because of her, and only then they can be together because he is a fit mate

Think this sounds pedantic? Think girls are pating themselves on the back too much. Well, remember all the harem anime you watched, with a blank slate MC who has no special qualities but some "mysterious untaped potential" that he realizes in the end, all the while having 5+ girls lined all wanting to give him a dick shine. My point is, romance fantasies are about making your target audience feel special in tehir own way, each with their own fantasies.

Chuunibyou is the only example I can give of this being done in the reverse order

>Male MC is pretty much well put together, with some minor issues left to grow up into

>Finds female love interest with flaws

>Helps her overcome her flaws

>Get puss all day everyday presumably, we are left without a single kiss for the whole season also ignore second season it's non-canon

 No.8775

Let me put it this way:

All the moe comes from the chuunis

But the story also revolves about chuunis having to grow up

So the story has this nice ballance between moe and drama

Characters grow up, and are chuunis no more

Last episode throws a curveball at that, but it can be seen as a way to have closure. You'll know when you see it

Then second season comes, throws all character development out the window, everyone is chuuni again, and the plot is a blueballing generic anime drama.

It's like a bunch of executives sat around a table and wrote the gudelines for a second season

>so, what do kids like nowadays

>moe sir

>ok this series has to be moe

>but sir the story arch is done, the source of moe is gone

>do I look like I care, just bring it back or whatever

>any new characters?

>nah, keep budget low

>there is no romantic rival for the love interest

>sigh… then add ONE character, to rival the girl

>got it. Do they kiss in the end? I mean they already are a romantic couple-

>hahaha, are you kidding me? NO of course not. If they kiss I wont have material for a possible third season or an OVA. It's not like I can write an engaging story with a different plot or something

OVA comes out this year I believe. I don't even want to come near it

I actually like them because of it. I love those twisted romances. I spend hours reading novels. Murder romances. Killing couples. Revenge porn. It's all great.

Probably the most twisted one I read was the one where the girl helped the guy she was love with lure girls to his place so he could kill them then eat them. He later on started eating her, bit by bit. It was so fucking absurd, disgusting, and yet so romantic. Creepy psychological romances are the best.

Pic related are more pure romances where the MC is giant sweetheart.

 No.9912

>>6287

You are not alone. But OP is silly. Mahou shoujo != Shoujo

>>6299

This guy is also silly. I can effortlessly name a fuckton of shounen demographic romances that act out and end just as retardedly as your average shoujo-focused book. The ultimate takeaway is Japan cannot into romance. Yes, shoujo is hard on the brain, but almost all of the romance stories across the board are awful.

 No.11149

I'd be inclined to agree, but Josei > 99% of Shounen anime. Josei is a legitimately good genre (Honey and Clover, Paradise Kiss, Saiyuuki Reload and Chihayafuru ( which is not most people's cup of tea, but I liked it)). I think most people watch Nana or something and then get the wrong impression of the genre.
