 No.49739

Well /animu/ I finally got around to watching Rebuild and they weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. Music Shiro Sagisu produced for these films are some of his best works.

>Rebuilds aren't bad

Did you even watch the third one?

 No.49749

You're a faggot for liking Evangelion.

 No.49754

The second one was easily the best. The third one was too dark. Yeah, it's Eva, but this time they went too far.

 No.49755

>>49747

Yea I did and it was standard Anno affair.

>>49754

It felt like Anno just did it well again out of spite.

 No.49766

>>49755

>out of spite

And probably no foresight to boot, given how much time its taking to write himself out of the corner wall he teleported himself into with the story there.

Although I think he could just be dragging this shit out in order for people to forget and stop giving a shit, so the death threats from all those years ago don't become realized once he inevitably steps on too many toes with 4.0.

 No.49767

>>49747

>Did you even watch the third one?

Yes and it's certainly the best one. The impotent rage of american weebs was everything I could ever ask of EVA. Twenty years of american fandoms polluting my japanese cartoons, vindicated.

>muh consensus

I will never stop laughing at the idea that yanks were convinced EVA was something they could expect happening under their own rules. You were barely learning of Sailor Moon when anime's reinassance ended, with Evangelion of course.

 No.49768

>>49766

The thing is when Anno and his team work on shit that's not EVA, they do interesting animations.

 No.49779

>>49768

A shame they are pretty much stuck in the Eva mines for the next few years at the very least, assuming they all don't get truck of isekai'd by angry nips by the end of it.

I'd really like to see if any of the old talent was left with Khara, when making a proper original TV series again.

 No.49807

Why are we talking about anime from the last twenty years. They all suck. I hasn't found one anime up to the snuff of lain or eva in all this time.

The rebuilds are a breath of fresh farts if you get my meaning. ;^)

I know it's kara but I only really like evangelion from them. I've watched the rebuilds after doing hours of research

at least 100 times…

I can't even count how many times I've watched episodes 25 and 26 of the main series as I had it in a playlist on repeat on my second monitor for at least 6 months.

Finer than wine. Anno-kami I wish I was old enough to drink.

 No.49817

 No.49818

A good chunk of it is just remakes of Nadia tracks.

Could you tell me more?

 No.49823

It's just rehashed shit. What more do you want to know?

 No.49827

Shiro has some good J/a/zz tracks that would fit our stream.

 No.49828

>>49821

Rebuilds 1.0 and 2.0 are largely NGE rerecordings with some original tracks, while 3.0 is a mix of Nadia tracks and original stuff.

 No.49855

The first one was just generic and boring.

The second one attempted something new at least, even if that was making the female characters members of Shinji's harem and having them cook off to win his love.

The third one tried to do a lot but failed for the most part. There was some good stuff there but too much was just random anime gibberish that wasn't properly explained. Even the autistic wiki doesn't have all the answers for this one.

It doesn't undermine the original series for me though because they're so far apart in terms of when they were released, and also because the rebuilds are sequels so it doesn't actually affect the original like a prequel or remake would.

 No.49859

>>49828

Still really love the tracks I have all of them and can share if any of you give a shit.

 No.49915

>>49817

As much as I like talking shit about Eva, but

Lain is the very embodiment of pretentious artsy shit

 No.49919

I remember being excited about this when the first one came out. Since it was going to be divided in parts, I'd wait to watch it after they were all released.

10 years, anons10 fucking years

 No.49920

the third eva rebuild was in 2012. at this point i wouldn't put it past him to intentionally keep delaying the finale just to fuck with everyone.

which sucks for me as i enjoyed them. the third one was a bit off-kilter but even it was okay.

 No.49921

>>49755

>It felt like Anno just did it well again out of spite.

That theory still going around? EOE was well-planned when episodes 25-26 aired. Also, there was no way everything was gonna end up ok for any of the characters, considering what happened in the past episodes before the last two; anyone hoping for a happy ending was just delusional.

It had substance, don't get me wrong. Lain nailed human interactions in the age of internet before the internet was popular, kudos to that.

But it couldn't have chosen a more pretentious way of presenting itself. It's an artsy project that, on one hand, actually has something interesting to say. On the other hand it's an artsy project

 No.50534

"Artsy" is a useless description, as is using the label "art" as a stamp of approval. All anime and drawings are art but that doesn't mean they're necessarily good art, and artsy is a useless label plebs give to anything weird.

 No.50563

>>50534

I personally call "artsy" anything that is pointlessly weird. If an anime has a weird artstyle but chooses to be consistent within it, it's not artsy. If it chooses to be weird because "gotta make it confusing for no good reason" then it's artsy. Lain falls a bit into it.

 No.50578

We have to be able to call out artsy shit for what it is. Not doing so is what made postmodernism thrive as it did.

>Hey this looks unecessary stupid and pointles

<NO! It's you who don't understand it

I don't mind being proven wrong. I'd even like it, it means I learned something new. But Lain's story structure is nonexistent, and for no good reason.

Like I said, it's not entirely void of meaning, there's some great stuff there. It's just obvious the author laced it in artsy shit to make it look deeper than it is.

>it's structured differently, has weird shit, and doesn't spoonfeed me

By your normalfag standards, a good chunk of pre-20th century classic literature and especially poetry would count as "artsy" and likely postmodern.

 No.50835

>>50563

>>44654

>>44711

You're the same fag, right?

 No.50837

>>50819

Nope. If it follows a structure is not artsy. You can deviate from the norm and even experiment with crazy stuff, no need to spoonfeed either. But if someone asks "is there a reason you made the timeline confusing and hard to follow?" and you can't come up with a good explanation, then it is. Emphasis on "good", because any recently graduate fucker can be vague about this to avoid the question. Again, there's no need to be straight or easy to understand. Just have a good purpose for your choices and self imposed rules.

It has been 10+ years since I watched or discussed Lain. So my memory might be falling me at this point. But I do remember it jumping around with some plot points, introducing characters that didn't really contribute to anything (in the end the only character that seems to matter is Lain herself, which isn't saying much since she ends being pretty uninteresting with little motivation other than "I can't socialize irl")

>>50835

No, never seen Monogatari

>>50837

>If it follows a structure is not artsy

Nigger, your definition is retarded and so are you. Even crappy modern and postmodern composers such as Arnold Schoenberg fail to qualify as "artsy" if we follow your reasoning since their compositions still have structure, even if the structure is little more than retarded Jewish wankery.

By your definition, vid related is objectively less "artsy" than Serial Experiments Lain because it follows the twelve-tone technique.
