Seeing as Zoku Owarimonogatari is going to air in the Fall season and I was planning on rewatching the entire series soon, I thought this deserved its own thread.
>Who is your favourite girl?
>What's your favourite OP?
>Which is your favourite installment in the anime series?
>Have you read the LN, if yes, what did you think of it?
>What is your overall take on the anime series?
As for me:
My favourite girl character-wise is Snail, in terms of appearance it would be Cat. I wouldn't be suprised if Nishio Ishin's favourite character is Mayoi as well seeing that her arcs are far more emotional and intense compared to those of the other girls.
Terminal Terminal or Platinum Disco.
Second Season.
I read only a fraction of the first one and dropped it because it really just felt like I was reading the script for the anime. I don't have much experience with reading light novels so maybe this is the case for all of them but I really don't see the point in reading them after seeing their adaptions as you won't get much different out of it.
I think it's a damn great series. Like any popular series, there's the fair share of people online who call it overrated or "pretentious" but I do really believe that it deserves the praise it gets. The dialogue-focused storytelling combined with the surreal background imagery makes for an interesting narrative, especially in this day and age where anime mainly rely on petty gimmicks and still images. I think most of the characters are great and the series does a goob job at making you feel attached to most of them, eventually making it so that all characters feel like they are there because they were needed to make the show complete. The MC is a pretty good excecution of the "young nihilist that most anime-watching males could relate to" archetype.
I do fear that now that the series has come to an end, Nishio Ishin is going to milk it out as much as he can seeing as he probably will never create something this popular again in his lifetime.

While it is the first chronologically, the series is really written in such a way that every season kind of gets you hyped for the reveal of what happened to the MC, as if it is this big mystery that even the writer himself hasn't completely figured out yet, which is also the reason why it was not the first installment to be released. Still, if you feel like you're not interested in seeing the rest of the series then I guess I could recommend it as it does have some damn great animation and was one of the more impressive-looking anime films of the last few years.
I think you should still check out Bakemonogatari (the first season) beforehand and if you enjoy that, you could just watch the series in release order and if not, you could watch the films and be done with it.
Monogatari is a series that really gets you invested the more you watch though so I feel like it's still best if you watch everything in release order but it's up to you. I marathoned the entire series (or at least, what had aired up until that point) 3 years ago in a period of around 2 weeks and it was one of the best experiences with anime I have ever had.
>>44324
>but it became somehow less and less interesting as it went by
I did feel like Owarimonogatari was a bit boring and I think Ougi was a bit annoying and probably shouldn't have been added to the story. Hell, I dropped Owari but that was mostly because I felt that it had been too long since I watched the rest of the series and therefore couldn't care about the characters so I'm going to catch up on it by rewatching everything and hopefully I can have a satisfying conclusion by doing so.

Except her design and everything didn't scream "MILF lovers' fantasy", more like a "busty and cute high school girl". Also she is pretty short, which wasn't reflected in the movie design at all, despite being the chronologically the youngest, she looked by far the oldest in all Monogatari.
And really, the whole movie felt like they are just doing everything in a way that the normalfag masses wouldn't get upset about anything, yes, especially any lolicon content.

You're just a faggot who probably can't enjoy anything if it doesn't involve flashy fights or over-the-top ecchi comedy bullshit.
>>44711
>I think it's pretentious because its overrated
That's not what pretentious means you fucking idiot. Also, the director has used the type of visuals in Monogatari in most of his previous works so it's more of a trademark style for him rather than something he uses to come off as artsy or whatever. He even said in an interview that he likes to use those visuals because he believes that it's what most people would like so it's pretty much the opposite of being pretentious.

I feel like Ougi kind of ruined the entire show, the already established cast felt complete and I would have loved to see more stories focusing on them but in Owari it almost seemed like Ougi had become the main character of the series. Then there is of course her obnoxious personality, which was probably written like that on purpose but that fact doesn't make her scenes any less annoying to watch.
The writer made a similar mistake in Medaka Box where he introduced all these characters that were extremely edgy and seemed to be meant to poke fun at stereotypical edgy characters in other anime/manga but were just as annoying as the real deal.

In this scene in Bake, Kanbaru says that she's willing to give her body to Araragi and replace Hitagi's role as his girlfriend. As I mentioned in >>44332 the anime is really written in such a way that it intends to get you hyped for finding out what happened to Araragi that led him to become a vampire as it is constantly mentions every season as a sort of dark backstory of his. So I would say Kizu is more statisfying to watch when you've seen the series in release order.
It's also the most visually impressive of the entire series so it could also be seen as saving the best for the last.
No.53032
>>52713
Personally if I could forget Monogatari and watch it all over again, I would start with Kizu, it just seems more appropriate that way. The whole series gets you hyped for that fateful golden week, except when you actually watch Kizu (as great as it is), you're like "Huh? That's it?" and what really takes place in the movies doesn't actually match the hype you got from the series, so it's better to just get it out of the way right from the beginning.
Kizu should be treated as a good introduction, since it also leaves you at a cliffhanger and gets you hyped for what happens in the series, for what happens to Kiss-shot, and for what happens next with Araragi's relationship with Hanekawa. This way the hype is more justified, and you get a lot more than what you were promised. The release order was a mistake.

I agree, it's just that I think even in Bake you get so many changes and so many new characters, that it would still feel fresh in the minds of the viewers, just without that feeling that Bake started out in the middle of the some other unended story.
At least that's how it felt to me when I watched Bake for the first time. I loved the characters, the music, the artistic direction and everything, but the first 4 episodes were me being both interested and confused about what I was watching, and whether I liked where the plot was going or not, which is something rare for me to do.
No.53221
>>53220
>but the first 4 episodes were me being both interested and confused about what I was watching
Seeing as most anime are prone to spoonfeeding the viewer with unsubtle info dumps at the start, I didn't mind the show being a bit unpredictable at the start at all. Most of the time, I get a strong feeling of if something is worth of my time or not during the first minutes of the first episode, sometimes the mere opening scene is enough, I don't believe in the 3-episode rule. I think the only anime series I've ever seen which had a horrible first episode but turned out to be great was Lucky Star, every other time I know exactly what a show is going to be like.
Anyway, Bake was one of those shows for me where I just felt that spark which I get when I found a new favourite and can comfortably sit back and enjoy the ride. What's funny about the series is also that it never really stops confusing you or doing something different from what you expected it to do just when you thought you had the feeling that you got the show's "formula". That's something that also happens a lot in Katanagatari, another Nishio Ishin adaption.

I've read the official translation of Bake and Kizu. They were engaging novels but mostly just added to the dialogue and inner monologue.
If you only want ones that are different to the anime, Kizu had a lot of stuff cut, and apparently Kabuki did too.
