Wow, this show was appallingly bad. I don't even understand why this show was even made. Were there animators out there that would rather produce an absolutely awful show instead of choosing another career instead? I don't even get why they would think that animating this was a good thought in the first place. The premise is terrible, the characters are each worse than the other, the pacing is nonexistent, and there's no point to any of the episodes. This could actually be mistaken for a modern piece of art due to how shockingly horrifying it looks, but it doesn't even try to present the viewer with anything other a waste of his time. But no matter that, because the overall quality was also unbelievable. I can't for the life of me think about a show with as horrible art and style than this show. Choppy frames, irregular anatomy, coloring that would only be acceptable in an impaired child's first grade art test. Just who were the social outcasts and misfits that were put together in other to make this show reach broadcasting? It would have been a bad joke with a funny side to it, if it weren't for the fact that there was not a single person in the extensive line of production that would do something, anything at all to limit the number of individuals that had to be forever scarred for watching this show. I can only imagine that Japan will try to completely forget about the production, distribution and consumption of this anime in order to not stain their nation's history of producing shows almost as bad. They'll now have to carry both the memories of the atomic bombs as well as this show, incapable of deciding which one was worst and more destructive to their country. It was an overall horrible experience, and we can all only hope that each and every evidence of this shit having ever existed is deleted from this world, and every person that had to endure even a single episode of this is hunted and put down. Overall a bad show.

Shit episode. There is nothing wrong with the show, excepting that it's simply strikingly boring. Everything about it is uninteresting, which I blame fully on the main character. She is supposed to be empty and robotic to serve as a vehicle for you to experience the world and surrounding cast as they slowly make her more humane (through listening to their heartfelt spiels as she ghostwrites,) but even that fails because the worldbuilding is puddle-deep, the cast is uninteresting, and so are the scenario of the week that are supposed to be giving robot-chan emotions. 4 episodes in, and the only one that was even remotely interesting was the girl and her brother who got crippled in the war.

To make matters worse, the entire premise behind the whole shitshow is that Violet is a child soldier and thus simply does not understand human interaction in any way shape or form. It's a bit unrealistic. I could understand being intensely awkward and bad at it, but it's like she doesn't even understand the concepts. Honestly makes her seem dumb.

But goddamn are the production values insanely high. Kyoani has always got the budget and if they stay willing to spend it like this, I'll keep watching forever.

The major gripe I have with the story is Violet's boss (the red-haired guy).

Instead of lying about the Major's death, he should've said that the Major gave her a direct order to live.

The show's probably going to capitalize on the moment when Violet discovers the truth, which is just stupid.

Mostly because the show deals with retarded characters who makes even more retarded choices.

That does seem to be the majority of them, doesn't it? Exceptions exists, but they are few and infrequent.

It's a shame. I think VE has all the necessary components needed to be a pretty good watch. On paper, the basic plot isn't horrible, the setting is uncommon (and thus interesting), the cast is wide and varied, the themes are heavier than the norm, and it's all wrapped up in KyoAni's money blanket. It just fails at each and every one of these in varying ways, culminating in a technically sound production that succeeds most in being boring as sin. Shitposter-kun said it truly; Violet Everboring.

It'd be nice if they threw a spanner in the works somewhere soon, but I'm not naive enough to hope for it. We'll likely be doing comrade of the week self-contained "emotional" stories for the next 5 or so episodes, followed by one last mini-arc of Robot-chan learning love to wrap it all up. God save us.

Comparing this show to Franxx in a vain attempt to mask the shittiness by instigating a console like war between Trigger (that doesn't even have point on Franxx, A1 does) and KyoAni can't save the fact VEG is uninspired trite masking itself as good through every cheap trick it can.

Hands down the worst show this season and easily one of the worst kyoani shows ever

Nah, not even close fam. It's pretty awful, but it's got absolutely nothing on how shit Marchen Madchen, Toji no MIko, or Black Clover (if that counts) are, for example. Violet is just offensively boring, but otherwise technically sound. Those shows listed above, and I'm sure a few others this season, are both boring and terribly written.

Probably still one of the worst kyoani shows though.

Franxx I can watch at least but Violet is just so fucking dull, the only thing I can give it is that it's pretty.

Last episode was actually good. A first for this boring and shitty show. The one story so far that had any amount of compelling emotion put into it, even though they didn't relate it back to Violet herself very well. The lake scene was also very pretty, if contrived and dumb.

Seriously, with the kind of production values they consistently put out, everything they touch should turn into gold, but it always turns to shit because they can't seem to get basic narrative writing down. It's not quite so bad when they adapt an outside work, as the adaptation has some solid basis as its core. But when they adapt in-house stuff I always find that get distracted while watching by more interesting stuff, like insects flying around or progress in downloading other anime.

I suppose they're probably going to make Colonel Hodgins (redhead guy) her new love interest, and together they're going to mend her broken heart. Or maybe she's going to overcome the Major's death by herself, to show the audience what a stronk girl Violet-chan has become.

Either way, the story's fucking bland.
