What pissed me off about that story and this is what makes it almost identical to the way American/western media portrays school shooters, is that they decided to focus on the media he consumed and imply that that was what turned him into a depraved murderer, and not the social isolation and bullying (which must have been even worse in a collectivist country like Japan) that he endured due to his deformed hands. That and the fact that there were generally a lot of these horrifying crimes in 80s and 90s Japan which had more to do with the extreme stress put upon young Japanese men and the shame they have to endure when failing society's expectations (again, same shit happening in the modern west where school shootings have become a well-known thing) and less with fucking anime or some other form of media.

It always baffles how normalfags will turn to demonize some piece of media they don't fully understand when that kind of thing happens in order to escape responsibility for the disgusting society they have created and which in turn creates those kind of people.
