in some cases its cheaper, specifically in the jin-roh adaptation you linked it doesn't seem very high budget.

best case scenario its a good adaptation of new material or material specifically designed for the movie

Jin-Roh probably would have been better 3D so that actors could make us actually care about the characters. It's not as if the anime had anything particularly visually impressive that would be difficult to replicate in live action.

But in answer to your question, there's pretty much no reason to do this. The trouble with adapting something good is that you're never going to make it as good so you're destined for failure before you begin. See: GitS.

Was /a/ just that pozzed by the time the movie released that people there couldn't see what a god fucking awful adaptation this was? It's like a GITS short story written by someone who thinks Micheal Bay movies are high art. Everything that made the original fun and intelligent was gutted.
