For those who don't know: the EU wanted to enforce a new law that would make it illegal to share/upload any form of copyrighted content on the internet, which was in stark contrast to the "we don't give a shit about piracy" sentiment that had always existed in both sides of European politics. This new law could be comparable to the strict anti-piracy laws that exist in (parts of) the US and already existing piracy laws in certain European countries like Germany/the UK where huge fines and in some cases even jailtime is given for the act of online piracy.

Had this law been passed it may had become increasingly difficult for European anons to torrent anime or share any Japanese media that had been licensed in the west. The EU is still planning on further discussing this law in September though and it is likely (based on the shitty way EU normally handles things that the average European doesn't like) that they will just revote until the law is passed anyway.

But seriously, it's good news. I do think the future is bleak however. Here's hoping that some country not only keeps relatively good internet freedom, but also that it has good servers so we and other sites can move there

I know, I still felt like mentioning that in a lot of European countries politicians never cared about piracy, at least never to the same degree as in the US for example. It's very frustating that they want to take my ability to torrent anime just so they can silence people on the immigration issue.

People wouldn't commit copyright infringement if copyright was actually sensible. Also one of the consequences of article 13 is to make individual sites RESPONSIBLE for enforcing copyright. Imagine an european chan forced to make it mods filter and remove pics.
