What a timing for this.

Last year i had a dreamt about a new season of SM where the original scouts were adults and they trained young girls as replacements.

Sailor Mars trained twins (tomboy and agirly one) and Sailor Mercury trained a girl who used a fishing rod.

The villians were a bunch of humans with masks of animal skeletons, and a giant crow wearing a theater mask and a trenchcoat.

-It's entire humor is derived from the same stupid "embarassing situations" like if you stuck all anime in a blender and squeezed it out

I dropped it in the first episode when the two leads are carrying a fullsized bookshelf, trip, and somehow end up on top of each other without either one getting crushed by the massive item they were carrying. Feel the same way, but it's probably because I was more exposed to SM than CCS. The opening themes are catchy though.

It all depends on you, but SM is slightly different on handling things than CCS.

>I have no issue with yuri as long as it doesn't become the main focus of the show.

Oirginal SM just has a couple of faggy moments, and a couple of yuri overtones once Uranus and Neptune appear. Crystal however goes slightly overboard with the yuri.

I absolutely loved Tutu but I had never heard of her name before. I see she worked on Ikoku Meiro no Croisée as well which is one of my favourite SOLs.

I naturally despise English dubs but in Sailor Moon I especially don't like its existence because Usagi's Japanese voice is perfect and I couldn't see anyone voice her better. Even without seeing the dub I already have a very strong feeling that they chose some Texan lady in her 40s to do it like they normally do with female characters which would not capture the youthfulness and cuteness of her character. Western women sound too masculine to properly voice anime girls.

It's very comfy, it was a lot of fun seeing a show set in that time period and place, especially for a history buff like me. We need more 19th century SOL's. Sadly, there won't ever be a second season due to the author of the original manga having passed away and her kind of going insane before her death and starting some sort of cult.

>Same, but in some rare instances I'll give them credit if they did a good job

A completely different anime, but have you seen Drifters? I loved that show, because all the characters are historical figures who suffer character development upon their real-world deaths before getting reincarnated into a fantasy world. For instance, super early in the series, Oda Nobunaga tells the MC he doesn't want to rule the new world they're in because He thought the ambush he died in might have been an ambush by his son, and anyone who's that much of a jaded asshole doesn't deserve to be ruler. Too bad so many of the characters are super obscure nihonjin fuckers.

I'm at around the half of the first season now. I was pretty close to dropping it, I liked the premise of the show but the animation was not that good and I was getting a bit bored with it. That was until they started hinting at some sort of backstory between Tuxedo Mask and Sailor Moon and I noticed some obvious similarities between this story and the story of the prince in Utena which I found interesting, especially since this show also seems to have a thing going on with a magical castle. It looks a bit like the Taj Mahal so I was kind of hoping that they'll have some sort of Hindu theme going on regarding their gods just like in Utena with Anthy and Akio but that might be asking for too much.

I know that Ikuhara directed later seasons but does this show ever get close to feeling like a "true" Ikuhara-styled show with surreal imagery and such?
