I'd wager on this, since his shit is niche for an already niche audience. With most of his fans probably scattered around the world rather than in nipland.

I remember there being a couple of omake where he mentioned how people in comiket or some other convention, kept mistaking his characters for some other series. And how his daughter told him Sidonia was boring compared to Titans.

I really like his work, especially Blame!, but you can definetely see where his weak points are. Also, art quality has ups and downs, but you can only draw the same bland white face so many times before people realize it might not just be an aesthetic choice
