Nita's performance was actually the only thing funny about the episode. None of the scenarios were particularly humorous, though that's understandable since it was an adaption of the first chapter or so and it takes a while for the author to hit his stride and settle the gags into their grooves. Nevertheless, Nita's quick and deadpan tsukkomi provided a chuckle or two throughout.
As long as they keep up this level until they make it to the genuinely funny happenings, this'll be worthwhile to watch, despite as-of-now hugging the manga 100%.

Das it mane.
It's still not all too funny, but it feels like they smoothed out some of the rougher edges. For example, Hina is way more likeable. However, it's been ages since I read through the beginning of the manga so it might just all be in the head. The cabaret scene was nowhere near as funny as it was in the manga, though. That is definite.
No.22615
My favourite so far this season. Can't go wrong with cute espers and Yakuza.

I think it's all about range.
You can have stories about normal characters in pretty normal situations.
But you can also have the eventual supernatural plot intertwined here and there.
No.29447
>>29444
seems like a gigantic waste of character setting and audience suspension of belief
No.29450
>>29447
I think you're overthinking this.
The alternative would be a "grounded" setting (for the more normal episodes) that would eventually steer away from the setting in order to deliver supernatural plots. I think that deals more suspension of disbelief than having the supernatural background already there.
But it only works because it's a light comedy/sol series. If they wanted to make a big deal out of the story I'd agree with you.
No.29454
>>29450
what i mean is both Hina and Anzu have powers yet never use them in a meaningful way. Instead we have a homeless arc of anzu just walking around collecting cans - you don't need powers for that. Or the entire arc of Hitomi (? the bartender girl), doesn't require powers at all, and could easily just be in another show.
I get the feeling that the whole nitta is a yakuza/ hina helping him thing was pitched as a oneshot to an editor and they okayed it but when it got popular they said "we can't show yakuza in a good light, let's move away from that" but then what's left? hina being domesticated by jap society? there's not much of a show left at that point.

>One night, a strange object falls on the head of Nitta, a member of the yakuza. Inside the box is a strange young girl named Hina. She has tremendous supernatural powers, and Nitta finds himself reluctantly taking her in. Her powers can come in handy for his yakuza business, but he also runs the risk of her using them on him! Not to mention, if she doesn't use her powers, she will eventually go berserk and destroy everything around her. Nitta and Hina's strange life together is just beginning…

Poor Hitomi. I like her stories better when they are over-the-top and break expectations. When she started working on her jobs, it just turned into a regular drama about overworking and depression.

Yeah the documentary maker said what we were all thinking - Nitta is just a normal guy who happens to be a Yakuza. It would definitely have been good for them to utilise the theme more. The show was mostly good but the last episode was shit like the hobo adventures. When it was good it was really good but I can't really give it above a 6/10 when it was so inconsistent. At one stage I was hoping to give it AotS but now that's just a pipe dream. I'm really annoyed they didn't give Hina and Anzu a proper sendoff in the finale.

Same. When the hobo episode came up I thought "ok we have ONE episode that feels out of place, it won't happen anymore" but then it kept pushing episodes played for feelings instead of laughs, and I lost some of my interest
