>would've been better as a 12 ep show with a more focused story of akko's growth either as a witch or as a person
Yeah, the amount of actual character progression across the series was just spread too thin and executed very poorly. Narratively it makes sense that Akko would have to learn all these lessons about what it takes to become a strong and well-rounded individual to gain the word's strongest magic or whatever, but she never acts any differently in her day-to-day interactions from the beginning of the series to the end. She doesn't put the magic words into practice except for the times she needed to learn them. She never stops fucking up, being impatient, being a hothead, being a dick, or jumping into anything without thinking. She just fumbles through conflict with her selflessness and bravado until she's rewarded with a word, and then it's on to the next episode where she does the same damn thing. It would have been great if Akko actually learned some self-restraint, or even at least seemed a little wiser as her schooling went on, but she didn't. She can still be the same hothead with a shitload of determination, just make her less retarded once and awhile and make her at least think about putting the lessons she learned into practice more than the one time it was actually required, (i.e. when she had to learn them).
Captcha unrelated, or is it?
