I can't understand whether GunxSword is underrated or not. Nobody seems to know about it but there's surprisingly enough porn with it.

>I can't understand whether GunxSword is underrated or not.

I've spoken with a Jap-anon on /v/ about the series before; he says that natively, pretty much no one he's spoken to directly that likes anime has even heard of it. I suppose it might be a bit more popular in the west, but even then reception seems somewhat divisive. Doesn't help that Newtype USA memed at westerners that it should be the "next stop" after Cowboy Bebop and Trigun (a statement which Funi regurgitated as well, acquiring the distribution rights here after Geneon fell), so of course it gets some people try it and hate it for failing to be more of either series. You'd think a work isn't allowed to stand on its own, under that sort of logic, and has to copy its predecessors.

>there's surprisingly enough porn with it.

Considering Takahiro also does (or at least, did) hentai game art (including working some with Viper), it wouldn't surprise me if it's had a trickle down effect to other series he's worked on, popular or not. Also worth noting that a series doesn't need to be actually watched/played much to still get lewds.

>>17291

He still came back at the end, when she's a bit older, so there might have been a chance. That said, when you've been on a quest for vengeance and used the memory of your dead wife to carry on for three years, it's going to take some time to let go of it and move on in any direction. At least he didn't anhero afterward like he was debating earlier on.

>>17292

It's a really enjoyable series if you ask me, with a great OST. And the beach pool episode that was from was pretty fun too.

Wait, it's hated by normalfags? That's weird, it's one of the better mech shows and the designs are stellar. But I suppose that's normalfags for you.

>Wait, it's hated by normalfags?

From what I've seen, it's mostly positive amongst the general western audience, just rather under-watched/under-known (it actually first caught my own eye after stumbling onto a claim at random that it had a very high approval from /m/ back in the day; honestly can't recall having really heard on it prior to that, but I'm glad I looked into it). The point I was making was that the western fans that bought into the meme seem more likely to be the amongst those disappointed in it, expecting more of what they grew up with and look back on fondly, and being angry at it for not being that (in which case, the fault is with Newtype and Funi for getting their hopes up in that way, but they'd just as much consider it a fault with the series itself). Also some others saying it's too derivative for their tastes, but I think that at least has more ground to it than "I was told this was Cowboy Bebop/Trigun, but it failed to be what made either series special" (as if it being more of either was AIC's intent in making it). "It's Trigun, but with mechs" is another meme about it that needs to die if you ask me, as does the whole "It's X meets Y" style for describing/marketing various series.

It's on par if not better than Trigun (the anime version) so it's quite puzzling why they would be disappointing in it.

I'm pretty sure he smashed that teenage pussy at the end.

I enjoyed it, though I can say as an old school anime fan that it's no Trigun or Cowboy Bebop. Perhaps if it was release around the same time, it could have had the same following…

This show is all kinds of corny. It's seriously chuuni before mocking chuuni was a trend.

It better be good, OP, I'll follow the 3 episodes rule at risk.

Question I've started to wonder is did it even really get a chance to air in western countries? Wikipedia only lists "G4 TechTV Canada" for western broadcast, and specifically Canada at that (the US branch might have killed their anime block by that time, and the page for "Anime Unleashed" makes no mention of it having aired on it), so it makes me question whether or not the US got that channel (I had very spotty cable access when younger, so I'm honestly not familiar with G4 myself), or if it even had an English airing outside Canada. Obviously it had eventual DVD releases in the US and some PAL countries in the end (and ignoring the potential for rips/recordings uploaded onto the internet and/or fansubbed for a moment), but still.

>>17348

Maybe, and Gun X Sword could well have been airing against competing series from bigger names out there at the time (I'd have to dig into it more, specifically for summer-to-winter 2005), but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a good comparison when, even if both are more popular out west, GXS doesn't have nearly the popularity Outlaw Star does here.
