Does anybody know where I could find any info on these "lockable" snap buttons?

source (there is a ton of cute stuff on that twitter btw) :

Could have sworn those were from a custom japanese abdl clothing manufacturer, and from what I gather, they are basically just magnet snaps, so if you are wearing the mitts, you can't actually get them off yourself without assistance.

I'd personally love to hear from anyone who can confirm what these are though. I'm liking the idea more and more once I think about it.

they're snaps that require you to press a magnet against them to unsnap them

couldn't tell you how to get them aside from ordering clothes from omupan

Huh, they are super intriguing! Is that really just a magnet? Why the little hole?

Its pretty much impossible to find anything under any even semi related search terms that would come to mind.

They aren't magnetic themselves, you need a magnet to release the tiny locking mechanism inside them. I can't find the patent right now but it's the same way segufix works

The hole probably has something to do with the manufacturing process.

At 1300 JPY per button, there's a decent chance they're custom-made.

Keys are A032 sold separately, but they say any sufficiently strong magnet will work

I imagine it's extremely similar to how the magnetic security tags used in shops work.

There are videos of those on YouTube.

Basically there's a spring inside holding some kind of latch-like mechanism closed. A strong magnet pulls the mechanism open.

I'd kill for a source for these snaps. I cant find a source besides that site. I cant image a clothing manufacturer hand makes tiny snaps, they have to come from somewhere.

"locking magnetic snaps" just returns lots of normal hand bag snaps.

I couldn't find anything on their website about international shipping. I suspect you'd have to use an intermediate company to receive the delivery at a Japanese address and send it on to you. Such services do exist, although they aren't cheap.

If you can write your query in Japanese you could always ask them at info@omupan.com. I wouldn't rely on google translate though.

>>56448

It's possible they designed them and then contracted some other company to manufacture them. That would explain the high per-unit price.

Tried contacting two big american specialty snap sellers, they have not heard of any snaps like. this. Going to keep trying.

If anyone has any leads it would be appreciated! Would love to bring clothing with these to the NA market.

Not the same type, but I'd imagine that a lift-the-dot snap would be just as difficult to remove if properly installed

Wouldn't require a tool to remove though, if that's what you're after

Apologies on raising a dead thread, but I found a shop that sells locking items with a magnetic lock, akin to the one from OP.

Straight Jacket Fashion on Etsy sells mittens, booties, and panties with magnetic locks that require a magic wand to unlock. They use a Segufix lock system.

If you note the OP, I think that these locking snaps are based on the same mechanism as these anti theft tags for clothes in stores. The buttons even look the same…

This question is semi-unrelated, but I don't think it really deserves its own thread and it is in the same ballpark as locking mitts.

Does anyone here have any experience with adult sized pacifier straps?

Do they make those or do you just have to make your own/improvise something?

I googled the moonrunes listed on omupan's website for that particular option, and one of the results was a page describing the patent for this type of button.

(http://www.ekouhou.net/%E9%8D%B5%E4%BB%98%E3%81%8D%E3%82%B9%E3%83%8A%E3%83%83%E3%83%97%E3%83%9B%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF/disp-A,2013-14917.html, if you are curious about it)

Then i googled the company that owned the patent, and found the site.

That isn't the patent for a magnetic snap button. That patent describes a fastener with a shaped socket and corresponding key which mechanically couple together.

I guess the same company make the magnetic snaps though.

Given enough electronics/DIY knowledge you could rig something up using a computer.

Take an electronic safe and replace the control board with an Arduino. Program the Arduino to only open the safe in response to a randomly generated digital key, then lock your physical key inside the safe. Break the digital key up into a sequence of short segments and hash each one using a strong algorithm such as scrypt. The only way to get the original key back is to brute force each hashed chunk. This takes a random amount of time, but because there are many chunks the distribution of the total time is tightly concentrated around some average. You can tune the average time by making the hashing algorithm stronger or weaker. The only way to unlock yourself sooner is to buy time on a supercomputer.

Or you could just send 5V to the wire that the comes out of the Arduino…?

The only exposed wires would be input signal lines and power. The arduino, locking mechanism, and associated wiring would all be inside the safe. You could fry the arduino by using higher voltages, but unless it's a fail-open design that wouldn't help you.

The actual flaw in my idea is that you could achieve almost the same result in a far simpler way by programming the arduino with a simple timer. Crypto-based designs are only really useful if you want to do bondage play with another person over the internet.

Or if you are interested of electronics, forget the arduino and design your own timer circuit :) For a beginner, designing a circuit with CD40xx series IC's would be pretty suitable project. Just remember pull-down/up resistors if you don't want to get locked forever :D
