Good thread.
My personal experience is that absorbency wise, diapers are just 'good enough' for me by now.
I wear Crinklz/Betterdry and sometimes ABU, and it's really hard to use all the capacity those diapers provide if you add a good stuffer (like a Pampers Baby Dry Size 6 without the wings and plastic cover).
I guess you might reach capacity if you continue to wear a single diaper for more than 12 hours after the first wetting, but at that point, your skin and your nose might appreciate a diaper change, anyway.
If you actively try to drink a lot of fluids, or if you put on a diaper when you are already bursting and then drink a lot, it might also be possible. Under realistic circumstances, however, I haven't been able to reach capacity while going about my day, and I often drink more than two liters during a 4-5 hour period. (Minor) leaks only happen because of penis positioning after wearing a diaper for a long time, but in those cases, even a nearly dry diaper would have leaked.
I do have to say that my urge to wet sometimes becomes smaller if my diaper is close to capacity (especially in the morning before showering, the warm water really triggers the urge), so maybe that is the reason why I don't leak as often anymore. That said, when I was still wearing medical diapers with bad stuffers, leaks occurred much more frequently, including non-minor ones. That makes me think diapers now definitely improved over what was available back then. Or the new brands generally have a better fit, but I somewhat doubt that considering how many medical brands I tried in the past 10 years.

My experience has been that putting stuffers in the center works better, as most diapers make it hard to use the capacity in the back, and good stuffers can help with that if they reach there. If you put a stuffer in the front, the front swells up and starts to leak before the back of the diaper ever sees any liquid. The stuffer somehow stops the flow.
If you want to sit comfortably, you might even consider keeping the stuffer away from the front. If you do that, the wetness might reach the outside of the diaper before soaking your stuffer, allowing you to sit on the mildly wet stuffer instead of sitting in an evenly soaked diaper.
On a completely different note, I would really like even thicker diapers. While absorbency is good enough, the feeling of being surrounded by even more fluff would be great. I'd even go as far as to widen the hourglass-shape so that the padding reaches the sides of the hips, where it will connect with the stuffing from the back. Could be perfect for side-sleepers, too.
