I'm not OP but I've heard on other sites that some parents believe that if you train children early to communicate their need to defecate or pee, then you can essentially forego the whole "diaper period", even when they're pre-walking because the parents can sense when the kids or going to pee or poop, then carry them to the bathroom.

It seems ridiculous to me, but apparently it's pretty common in pre-industrialization societies where diapers aren't that common. However, even in those cases it still leads to a lot of shit being everywhere.

As for OP's question, I think that if ABDL desires are tied to the feelings and associations with childhood, then you could develop them even without diapers, but for a lot of us the attachment is to diapers specifically, in which case, maybe I would have developed a fetish for something else?

No, I got my DL aspect when seeing diaper commercials and wanting to wear them because they looked cute. Granted, I had a traumatic diaper training experience, not one I remember but I've been told. But I never wanted to be back in diapers, only to just wear them again maybe even once.

Diapers for babies always struck me as a convenient way to deal with their incontinence, people deliberately forgoing the use of them seems like taking a more difficult route for no reason. Unless there is some kind of horrible danger that diapers pose that I'm unaware of, I don't see the point of it all.

I don't have any memories of my life before I was out of diapers and yet here I am as a DL, so it's a bit hard to say. Unless there's something buried in my subconscious from those early years I don't think I'd be any different if I never wore them.

Seems like a dumb idea to me. It would require never diverting your attention away from the child even for a second, and even then, you're still risking get shit and pissed on.

Friends have done this. its not exactly 100% diaper free, its more diaper reduced. Also the mom stayed home while the dad made her feel guilty for wanting to work again. soo… i dunno about how effective it was overall for the family.

It doesn't bother me and it's a choice they make. They learn to read their baby's signals for when they need to go and they take them to the spot where they know they are supposed to release their waste.

It's relatively easy to train most children at 2 with almost no accidents but…

-No TV (/electronic devices), period. They will totally forget about the toilet if the TV is on, it's just too stimulating for a toddler. I can't imagine that whatever it does to their dopamine receptors is good in the long-term either.

-No dairy. Often causes minor (sometimes major) constipation in small children which creates urge incontinence in small bladders

-No diapers after training ever.

Almost no one obeys these three rules so almost no kids are trained at the age they used to be. Rules 1 & 3 were followed universally through the 50s and dairy doesn't affect all kids so that's why the age has been shooting up. But, if you're having trouble pting them, you should at least try removing dairy once you've done the other parts.

It is important if you are a parent find alternative methods to comfort your child to replace the need of diapers for that. They may develop regression or feel troubled later on in life if that cannot be provided.

Theoretically with the flu (like, explosive diarrehea) sure. That can generally be prevented with a flu shot. Colds - heck no, they need to get their sick butt to the toilet.

And if they have an accident, no anger, no saddness nothing. Just maddeningly make them practice announcing that they have to go, getting their clothes off, and sitting on the potty. Kids hate monotonous practice but the punishment fits the crime and, as long as you don't get angry/ give them a rise, then there's nothing to traumatize them.

The punishment for accidents is boring, monotonous work, that's how to get a toddler to make sure they get to the potty on time.

I looked briefly into it on Google but came up short as to why there might be a connection (though this was by no means thorough research). The only thing I can think might connect the two would be the sensation of waste in the genitalia region leading to an increased interest in gonadal stimulation.
