We are past that now. The story went in multiple arcs. Let me explain using the power of oekaki and autism.
X is the time in the story, while Y stands for different aspects depending on colour.
Red represents senpai's confidence. At the beginning of the story senpai has a false sense of security and uses that as protection against reality. The moment he meets Nagatoro (first drop) his entire confidence is shattered as he is pushed to tears and entirely dismantled. He took a while to talk with her again, which made him more confident. Nagatoro noticed, bullied him and pushed his confidence down once more (first minor bump). You can see the increase followed almost immediately with a dip. Following the dip, Senpai's confidence builds up again, this time higher than before the last time he talked to her. Nagatoro notices and pushes him down a little. His confidence takes a dip and he builds up, stronger than before. This pattern continues, with dips and buildups having longer periods of moderate growth between as time goes on. Dips and buildups may become more severe overall, but the trend is clear: Nagatoro isn't pushing Senpai's confidence down with her bullying and teasing, she is increasing it.
Blue represents Nagatoro's desire to bully. As you can see, her desire to bully was extremely high before she met Senpai. Her initial bullying of him only sated her lust for a few days, but it increased with time to a level near original, but slightly lower. Then she bullied him again and her desire to bully dropped more. As time between bullying was fairly short, her increase in lust between bullying was rather high as well, but the increase started to get smaller and smaller as the time between bullying began to increase. Overall her desire to bully has decreased with each bullying event. It is unclear if it will ever reach 0, or maybe even remain there. For all we know is that it is currently decreasing with each session of bullying. The point where her desire to bully dropped lower than Senpai's confidence should be around the time where Senpai "saved" her and her friends from the other guys.
Green is a representation of how close the story currently is to the original idea of the pre-serialization. It is calculated from the following formula g(t)=(b(t))/(r(t)), where r(t) is the red function and b(t) is the blue function. As you can see it is a quotient of Senpai's confidence and Nagatoro's desire to bully.
The manga was most like the pre-serialization when Nagatoro relentlessly bullied senpai in the first chapter, but has since drifted down a lot. The point where the mango dropped below a value of g(t)=1 was when senpai got the courage to stand up to other boys, but the decline was clearly visible from the start.
