It's half a glass of red wine every day, and it's not true of 90% of hard liquors (unless you include 20% ABV cloudy unfiltered drinks to be hard liquor). Craft beer (slow-aged beer) is actually better than red wine and the suggested amount is still something like 6-8oz (your average beer is 12oz).

There's known health benefits of wine (especially red) and beer due to antioxidants and yeast compounds. Additionally (or perhaps because of it), alcohol consumption of 0.5 - 1.5 "standard drinks" per day has a lower total mortality rate than being a dryfag.

What this is anon is talking about and probably what you are talking about are byproducts of fermentation. Cheap liquor will taste bad because it is full of fermentation products that are not ethanol. Acetone is very common and is what's the worst offender in cheap vodkas. Increasing the number of and quality of distillations will decrease these byproducts, leaving only ethanol which is not unpleasant: it doesn't make you gag or gasp like acetone or other products do. Simply put, buy better spirits and they will taste better.

There's a ton of aspects to it, many different types of alcohol carry different risks and benefits, but the TLDR is that as a male the ideal is around 1-2 glasses of wine. For widely available, high quality wine, get some Port.

Yeah fermentation has a lot of products other than ethanol and CO2. It mainly produces those two but other compounds can form. Another common one is methanol which is why it is dangerous to drink home made distilled spirits.
