I don't know about this, I'm not a huge fan of mothercon, but the mother is drawn to look so young she's indistinguishable from teenage girls anyway, it makes me wonder what even is the point. Fantasy is a much broader definition, isekai is much closer to describing it. This whole argument is fucking pointless because the definition was "isekai-like" to begin with.

I think what anon meant by "isekai-like" is that subgenre of fantasy contemporary with isekai where it's not strictly isekai but it has a lot of the same elements as isekai stories, most obvious being a very "gamified" setting where the world is deliberately generic fantasy, there are game-like mechanics at play (skills, stats, adventurers' guilds etc.). I think it's fair to lump them in with isekai in some cases since they share more in common with a typical isekai story than a more traditional fantasy.

I watch isekai for the adventures, worldbuilding and the girls. Mamako isn't really one of the "girls" part of the cast, even if she's constantly on screen and has plenty of fanservice, she's more like a tacked on character that doesn't really fit in with the rest of the main cast. Which makes sense, parents don't usually get deeply involved with their children's friends group for a similar reason, but it doesn't make for a very good addition to an isekai. And then Mamako gets in the way of adventures and there's not a lot to say about worldbuilding since it's a half-finished actual MMO, not a fantasy world.
