The series has become a mess in the latest arc. Management keeps making stupid decisions and backtracking because the author tries to have them act with no in-universe basis for the sake of forcing character development, but changes his mind when he sees how stupidly things turned out.

It's an C++ OOP thing. The function is a member of the class and thus needs to be in it's namespace. The function still returns void, it just operates on the class's private variables

Aoba still lives with her parents and probably can't afford any sort of housing on her own that is remotely close to where she works. Although I will admit I'm not sure how affordable housing is where she lives/works.

Additionally, she routinely spends 10+ hours a day at work not including her commute time and occasionally spends the night at work. That sounds like absolute hell. I want to leave after 8.5 hours at my job and that's after I take 1.5 hours worth of breaks in a day.
