It's a buddy cop anime with a loli elf princess. The buddy cop element is pretty by the numbers so far (criminal informants, old partner dies , cop doesn't want new partner, new partner doesn't understand how they do things around here) so the deciding factor on the plot will be how they develop it from here on out. Visuals and animation are pretty good, only the typical car CG stood out to me. I think it could be good but it's hard to tell so far. Watch the first episode for yourself.

I think this show has potential if they keep it roughly to the same quality as the first episode was. I think this show is pretty hard to fuck up, I really want to be hopeful that it will get even better. The animation isn't high budget, but they appeared to have put their money to good use overall, nothing has struck me as flat out QUALITY yet aside from using the CG cars for a bit too long.
Using the fucking phone to call his partner's wife to tell her he's dead was dumb. They should've written that better.
OP was great, really liked that. Music choices seem to be pretty nice overall.

>>939389
>Also fucking tired of people comparing orcs with niggers.
They do it because orcs are very obviously their fantasy stand-in. The whole "but they built a society haha" retardation is a pathetic excuse. Yeah, they act like stupid, violent brutes that can't think ahead, but they managed to build a civilization because the fantasy author said so, so it's totally different. You've completely fallen for the propaganda meant to make you view negative qualities as positive. Being physically strong is a good quality; being a retarded brute that needlessly uses it for violence is not.

I'm gonna be lenient since it is early on in the show and say that is part of Kei's character and meant to show that he doesn't give much thought on being nice. His boss did offer to speak to the wife instead and I am assuming will be taking care of that situation off screen.

Second episode was pretty good, I liked the random bits of alien language and the wordplay with the cat. Also we got an explanation for why he wears the mask so that's nice. Plus it gave us more character development of our cop hero. Plus, her leaving her sword for the fairy, you know that it's personal with her. Looking forward to what happens next. I'm assuming she's going to end up at the club, in trouble, and maybe he'll save her this time.

Possessing someone's body and making them kill their partner and dance around before committing suicide is pretty damn edgy. The only reason it isn't here is because they technically die before being reanimated. If they were conscious while it was happening it'd be far worse.
I still think it's a bit edgy though. But it being set in America makes me not care as much. They've already show the city being full of degeneracy so it's not as if they only doing it for a shock factor.

It's an oldfashioned Hollywood style buddycop movie complete with all the cliches, including the police complaining about how their budget is being cut. Combining buddycop with kawaii elf girl is actually a really good idea, I hope there are more scenes of them arguing.

Loli girl becoming the bachelor protag's live-in maid wasn't what I expected. I expect ample fish out of water humor a la Helpful Fox Senko-san. I'm not expecting it to be a serious cop drama anymore, but it still has potential as 'Senko-san but with a plot to keep it interesting.'

A policeman that isn't bitching about budget cuts is a dead one.
I can guarantee 100% that it isn't something typically western, you could field patlabor level mechas, police aircraft carriers while and annihilating shop-lifters with orbital strikes and cops would still bitch about not having enough money spent on them.
I'm sure you can find a 15th century town guardsmen from Holland, Japan and China bitching about not having enough budgets.
Hell I'm sure you can find a rock painting from Africa made by a cave guardian depicting him not getting enough offerings, that he made last week.
It's a buddy cop thing with two unlikely characters bonding over a same goal but it's not really something Hollywood invented (as it did existed in literature before. Straight shooting hero + cunning servant exist in mythology even).
Also one of the first and most well known Kurosawa movie is a cop noir/buddy movie:

Which, you know, predates by 20 years the first US one that Hollywood "totally invented"...

I don't like seeing these creatures of darkness sexualize the loli. Both the pacing and animation were really bad this episode; the fencing looked like some gag from a SoL series. And, of course, they had to go with a really obvious "diversity is good" message, even though everything we've seen of this world is a disgusting mess.

This however was the real problem I had with the episode. The corruption of the American dream makes for a much more interesting antagonist, a liberation from his foreign upbringing that is shared with one of our protagonists.

It seemed like they were desperately trying to cover everything this episode which makes me think they are trying to fit in more room later on. This episode would have been much better if it had been divided into two episodes, the first ending at around when Kei arrives at the old church and then covering the rest in the second episode. Basically every scene needed more time to play out.

Way too much plot happened this episode. Learned the motivations of everyone, killed off (not) a significant character, had three battles that were important, and a slide show of avoiding traps. I wasn't expecting to reach more or less the end of the fairy bomb story so quickly. What comes after this to justify suddenly ending this story?

I agree, it felt like two episodes crammed into one, as well as the build up to the climax of the story. Was this the part just before where the LN ended its current arc? Since it was so rushed and the magic traps scenes were skipped over in seconds, I don't understand why they didn't just skip the traps entirely and use those precious seconds to make another scene longer. Unless they were setting something up with the magical lung fires. The sword fighting was rushed too, of course. While I wouldn't want it to be some drawn out shounen affair, it wasn't much better like this anyway. In the first duel she just falls over, somehow, for no discernible reason. Nothing about it shows that the guy is a better combatant than her. If anything, he seems to just be swinging wildly. The second time, it's even less unclear, thanks to the terrible and out of place animation. She gets a kick in and seemingly goes for a killing blow, yet it just goes back to the ridiculous flailing until the guy suddenly gets cut for no clear reason. It's as if they were trying to portray what I assume was fighting that was written to be hard to follow for Kei in the LN, but botched it completely.
Even the fanservice was confusing. They do show her panties at a few points, mostly briefly, but in the combat scenes the guy comments on how he can see her panties and almost see her beasts, but it's not shown to the viewer.
And then there's the fairies in the hideout. There are a lot of them, but Tilarna doesn't seem to be concerned with saving them. I understand that she cares mostly about the bomb fairy, but she doesn't seem care about finding out if any of the jar fairies are alive or if she can save them somehow. Are they alive? Some of them seemed to be whole while others were just floating body parts. Then they start turning red and exploding. Tilarna doesn't seem to care. Are they exploding because of the heat? If so, why just random ones and with such a quick change? Why the noise that seems to be vocal? Was it something magical happening? The scene was unclear as to what was going on.
And finally, Tilarna says that Dennis the magical fantasy elf is "no longer human". Was he human to begin with? Wasn't the point that they came from the fantasy world and thus aren't human, setting up the main conflict of the setting?
I would like to think that they rushed through this to have more time for the rest of the show, but it's hard to be that optimistic considering the budget also disappeared.

I think this was fine. There's a difference between fanservice for the viewer's sake and her getting exposed to dickhead elf in canon. The first time they show pantsu is in a funny scene. It would have been inappropriate to show fanservice during a serious sequence like that.
>And then there's the fairies in the hideout. There are a lot of them, but Tilarna doesn't seem to be concerned with saving them.
Didn't she say something about the fairy she's after being some kind of special noble fairy? Maybe she's just not concerned because they're not as important. Also since some of them were dismembered I assume that meant they were all dead/beyond saving in any case.
Don't know what them turning red was about.
>And finally, Tilarna says that Dennis the magical fantasy elf is "no longer human"
This one was weird too but I interpreted it as meaning figuratively "human", as in a civilized and upstanding person. Maybe they think of themselves as "human" and the humans from our world are the weird aliens. That was probably just meant to say he lost his "humanity" by doing something despicable.
I agree the fight scenes were a mess and the fact that this episode came so early in the season felt really strange. It felt incredibly rushed. If nothing else they at least made me curious about what's going to happen now with their weird pacing.
Also shockingly they got someone who speaks English to write the flavour text.

>the pacing this episode was tragic
The scene with Kei and his boss was given way too little screentime. Also I know they mentioned Kei being in the military before, but I don't think his squad being annihilated by an alien had been mentioned, and the suddenly realization on Kei's behalf that the red wizard was the one who killed them came out of nowhere, and felt more than a little comical. Other than that it is a good show, but these poor pacing problems are something lots of LN adaptations suffer from, with the publisher demanding x amount of volumes be adapted in y amount of episodes, usually not enough episodes relative to volumes to give the story enough room to breathe. When will they realize this is not the way to go about it?

That episode was really nice. A bit of drama. Elf couch potato. Ancient evil awakens (the panic of the elf realizing what it is, was really well timed).
We get the police chief cliche but heh it works, I mean you have the elf straight up cutting people up and beating suspects like it's still the good old days, so they have to get yelled at for the cultural shock, might as well go the whole way. If you have to do it execute it well I guess.

>Pacing is a lot better
The first half of this episode should have been its last half, ending with Kei discovering elf had returned, which would have given a whole other half an episode for the first arc, with the events of episode 3 stretched across an episode and a half, giving them more room to breathe. It does seem to have improved though, and so I'm cautiously optimistic that ep 3 was just a blip, and things will smooth out from here.
