As expected of symphogear, the first episode was a warm up battle with a satisfying level of introductory fist and explosions. I dont remember much of the plot thats continuing from last season.

Do they? I downloaded HS's release, since there had been no activity from Erai for the first part of the season and I had stopped checking, and only part of the songs there were subbed. Towards the end of the episode they apparently got fed up. Erai usually only has very slight modifications if anything versus HS.

We'll see how XV goes but if they keep each episode like this one it could end up in a tie with G. No villain has really come close to Fine or Ver though. I don't expect that to change unfortunately.

This episode was more violent, better animated, and had better music than anything past S1 (excluding radiant force).

I'm so glad, I hope they keep this up. I can't say I've been a huge Symphogear fan thanks to GX and AZX but this is getting my hopes up.

I don't think it's known how long Chris was able to use Solomon's Cane while acting under Fine's orders. It doesn't seem clear exactly how many Noise attacks were summoned by her, and how many were summoned by other means.

At the very least, she killed a few people during the ambush on Durandal, but it seems likely she was directly involved in some of the attacks on civilians too

That wasn't just a Hibike thing. Chris uses her superb song during the moon laser event and then comes out of it completely fine, despite also falling from the sky and, if memory serves me, taking a hit from the moon laser. The sword lady also performs some sort of supposed suicide attack into the tower, though it's unclear if it was a superb song. Hibike clearly thinks that it was a suicide for some reason when all she did was fly into the tower, which gave me the impression that it was meant to be a superb song thing. Either way, at least Chris uses a superb song with zero side effects in S1, and I can't recall any actual consequences of superb songs in seasons 2 or 3. On a side note, sword lady looks so much like one of those disposable characters that exist only to die in the intro to kick things in action for the protagonist. Just like the redhead. I was quite surprised when she didn't die either at the start or when she picked a fight with zero-speech-skill Hibike early on.

Wasn't that only after X-drive kicked in that she was able to get up? Anyways, the feedback of a swan song depended on at least the sync rate of the user which is why Kanade died and Kirika and Shirabe would have died in G. Tsubasa and Chris are attuned to their relics, so they don't suffer as great of harm. Hibiki was fused with Gungnir, so she was able to withstand even more. When Tsubasa takes out the tower it wasn't a swan song, just a dangerous and desperate maneuver. Hibiki would have been entirely right to judge it as a suicide attack given Tsubasa's disposition in S1.

Even aside from Tsubasa's S1 personality, shit was fucked at the time. Betrayal, death, destruction, the devastation of her home the school, Chris apparently dead, Tsubasa badly wounded and making a last-ditch attack, and Hibiki dealing with the guilt of wounding her. Hibiki had already been driven to her berserk form by the despair and was only just coming out of it when Tsubasa made her attack. Not exactly a situation that encourages optimism, even for the relentlessly optimistic Hibiki.

Apparently, Chris and Tsubasa effectively died in S1 when facing Finé. They got resurrected through amazing amounts of phonic gain and SYMPHOGEAAAAAH

S1 was very melodramatic and rough around the edges, and I suspect that the ending cop out was mostly because they didn't know what they were doing at that time and initially aimed at a dramatic ending before a last minute rewrite. Or maybe not, I don't know.

The swan song doesn't necessarily kill its user, but certainly empties them of their stamina and causes tissu damages in the whole body due to the strain. Kanade had awful sync rate and therefore burnt out during that last ditch effort. Tsubasa was effectively out of commission for days when she used it vs. Chris and Chris used up everything and subsequently died to the laser from Babel.

Kirika was also completely exhausted and out of the fight right after using it in AXZ. That said, by that point, the swan song had already lost its meaning.

Hibiki is an exception among exceptions I'd say. She's literally bullshit incarnate due to her astronomical synchro rates and the fact that she essentially was a relic at first.

The only times where the swan song had no side effect was when they had enough power and synchronisation/power to hold hands to forget about the side effect (Hibiki channelling/siphoning the power away or 6 BILLION SWAN SONGS)

It's pretty ironic that transformation scenes were originally a concept that was supposed to be repeated in majou shoujo/mecha anime episodes in order to save time and budget for anime with lots of episodes, and those from Symphogear XV are pretty much the complete opposite and they are the parts with movie quality and giving people what they want. I bet also that they won't be repeated like in the previous seasons where they were shortened after the first time.

When they open up the coffin, Ogawa says that it's a body of a custodian or annanuki, and that it was considered a god. I think there was a soft retcon to make the Heavens more Japanese probably so daddy grandpa's villainy aligns better with Shinto beliefs. It was alluded to near the end of AXZ. All it would take is a for characters to bring up the creator one more time, but they seem to be avoiding that and calling the Custodians gods instead.
