Actually I looked it up, all the official announcements talk about Aku being a girl. Do do or at least they are a big part of making it crap. Low budget usually leads to bad art and animation, which are a big part of the overall quality of an anime. Especially if it's an adaptation since an other big part of what makes a series good, the plot and characters, already exist in the source material. The only part that remains is he writing, how well they re-created scenes from the original and if they made any reasonable changes.

If they actually did that then sure, it can still be a good series. Sometimes these limitations can even be used to achieve something good. Konosuba is a good example. They had time constraints by having the number of episodes from a planned 12 reduced to 10, so they focused on the parts they thought important. They had budget constraints so they used QUALITY and reused animation for comedic effects while saving the budget up for a few big, well animated scenes. They even made some god re-writes, like giving Darkness something to do during the Boss battles while still having her stay in character.
But Konosuba was an exception. Most of the time, time constraints mean that the anime will just skim through as many parts of the story as possible. Budget constraints lead to janky animation through the whole series and art that looks as if the characters faces are melting. Most anime are a just job the studio employees do in order to get food on their table.
So what's the point of getting a shitty, low budget adaptation? At best fans of the series will think "well that was shit" while it attracts almost no new people to the source material. At worst the series will get axed because publishers are dumb fucks.

I would disagree. Text gives you more grasp on the background of the emotion. What exactly caused it, what influence does it has on the character. With that information reader can feel stronger bound with the character. Of course, VNs are better in this than traditional books, because player shares not only emotion, but even the burden of making decisions and experiencing the consequences, but books are the closest you can go with the uninteractive media.

I only started watching it but man this show is just so enjoyable. It seems pretty self aware of it's own stupidity in a good way.
The MC is amazing too. He acts like Ainz from S1 ep1, in a good way, and his seiyuu does an amazing job at switching from cool demonlord to clueless dork.
