What better way to spend the summer than indoors translating Burmese lithographs?
What are you scanning, uploading, translating, cleaning, and typesetting?

I also remember Yo from Shaman King wearing some weed shirts, but that's it. It's so uncommon, not even doujins where drugs are involved have weed, they'll have mysterious EV substance that makes you crazy but they won't have weed.
>>936970
Yes, several points in this comic were interesting to me: insisting the manga's weed isn't like real life weed, hiding the weed inside a fake coke can, the NWA panel. I have 0 involvement with drugs myself, I barely even drink, but I love to read about the nips' relationship with drugs, it's so different from the rest of the world.

>Drugs in Japan is an interesting world.
That's an understatement when even the Yakuza won't deal in most drugs, and people get prison sentences for having a blunt (likely made of shitty stems) like the stuff you'd expect drug dealers to get in other countries. I very much think that the image of weed being tied to foreigners also strengthens that conviction in Japan (as does the alcohol industry). Even the fact that this guy didn't get sent to the police for that short web comic is a miracle in and of itself.

Can't think of a very elegant way to put it in English, but I'll try.
>Then, why has the boom for eroge that make you cry, thus allowing you to savor both joys, died out?
>The otaku in the next seat over felt the mercilessness of time and knew that his days of youth were never to come back. Unknown to anyone, he shed tears just as he did back then...
Not entirely sure if the tone here is meant to be very flowery or kind of neutral and natural. I could probably embellish it a little bit if I had an excuse to use fancier language but I don't know if it's justified.

Given how long it took me to do last time, offering to clean/typeset may be a bad idea but I'll put the offer up anyway since I generally will get to it. Also uploaded those 3 Blanc H doujinshi to the panda finally. It confirmed that it doesn't work with a fresh account, but you are still able to upload things that are blacklisted. They go by Australian logic where flat = underage.

[Title] A culture of grey
>You have those censor characters, right?
>What do those even mean? Do you know?
<[Small]*Blunt*
[Examples]
● D*ck
● Pocket M*nsters
>Why did you have to pick those two examples of all things?
>You can't just leave those as is without covering them up...
>It just shows that you're willing to hide those.
>Between this and mosaics, this country is number one when it comes to blurring reality.
>Stop picking a fight with the country. You'll get the military involved.
>What's wrong with blurring, anyway...
>Sometimes things actually get more annoying when you have to be clear...
>Like what?
>...Drawing doujinshi...
[Furigana says "What I'm doing right now"]
>Damn you, otaku...
In that last panel there's also that 灰ッ, which I'm really not sure what it's meant to be. 灰 means ash, or grey, so it might have something to do with the screentone that appears there or maybe something to do with doujin censorship? It's also read "hai" so it could just mean a sort of self-affirming "Yep". It might be some kind of slang thing but googling it and checking a few dictionaries doesn't seem to give me anything past the literal meaning, aside from one where they make a pun out of Dio's quote about the greatest high .

I'm not going to tell you that I know what I'm doing or anything but I'm pretty sure that first line reads like "You know those word censors right? Is there even any point to them? You know what I'm sayin?" followed by the little 'frankly'/however you want to phrase it floating by her head. The second line is talking more about why you'd put a dick right next to a pokemon, in the sense of how contrasting the two dieas are, but frankly that's probably a question you shouldn't ask me. Maybe something like 'Why out of everything did you have to line those two up to show me?'. If you want to make the joke more punchy you could try and phrase the last bit like "What's wrong with blurring a few lines anyway? Having everyone be on the straight and narrow would make life too much of a pain." "When would that be the case?" "... Like for what I'm doing right now (Doujin Artist)..."
The biggest change here is from 'for example' to 'when what that be the case', if you want to really stick to the orginal you'd need to think of something else but that's the best I can do.

Thanks anon, my main worry is that there are jokes or references that could be missed, butchered or lost in translation. Some chapter already missed a joke that was calling someone petty by saying she had a small ass which is also my fault because this is a joke recycled from tomodachi wo tsukurou and I forgot about it. So I wonder if I could leave a page next to the translated version so anons can do some quality check.

Pretty sure フリー means freelance in this context. Also don't fucking romanize Oono as Ono. Maybe get a few more fonts to use if you're also going to be doing the typesetting.
Other than that I can't really trust myself to give accurate advice at the moment. I'd say you should probably stick to smaller/simpler stuff for the moment, but challenging yourself is a good way to learn too, as long as you bother to look stuff up instead of making assumptions.

Do people actually use that nomenclature?
I have universally heard "second year" and so on. The only time "soph" gets used is specifically to describe an upper-year student living in residence, so the first years have a more experienced and (ostensibly) more mature peer-mentor to rely on.

Maybe its different elsewhere, but in America we use these terms to say what grade in University we are: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. If you are a fifth year or are behind a few classes you just say Sophomore or Junior based on the classes you are taking. I'm sorry I don't know anything about localizing but if you intend to keep it closer to a universal or Japanese mindset of talking, do what you think is best. Maybe in Japan they say second year, and the manga is in Japan, so I guess you are right. We are reading what they say in their context, they aren't going to college in the US.

As a non-american that's done student exchanges to several different english-speaking universities in other countries literally only americans use these terms. Every other country just says [x] year, perhaps including whether they're bachelor/master/doctorate. I've never heard anyone use grade but first year/fourth year etc. or something like 'I'm in the second year of my master' seems to be pretty universal.

First of all it would be better if you didn't paraphrase some of the content in the larger boxes. It's not wrong by any means but for example the second blurb specifically refers to their bodies and being able to get advice about their troubles but you've only mentioned a place to talk about their troubles. The blurb about the clinic is more like I work as a freelance counsellor from a small clinic, the ideas are connected. In the bubble right after that she doesn't mention anything about victorian era specifically, and she also says that she did the interior all by herself, not that she neccessarily bought it. More importantly then all these small misses is reworking the English so that the sentences are more comprehensible, especially the very last line which I think is a bit wrong in terms of the Japanese too.

Allow me to bump with some autism.
Some Anons might remember me as the guy who started re-translating the Konosuba LNs a while two years, jesus christ ago. Well I've been doing it all this time and I've gotten all the way up to volume 9, which is almost done. And it might also be the last volume I translate, depending on how I end up feeling.
I've been doing this with no prior experience in any of the stuff involved and playing it by ear a lot, and I've changed my mind a lot about lots of things the more experience I got, but I never got more sure of my decisions. In light of this possibly being the last volume I release I figured it might be a good idea to go back and bring everything to a more consistent format for maybe a wider release since I only really "advertised" this on /a/. I want to ask you Anons and especially those of you who read a lot of LNs or books in general because I sure as fuck don't if you have any opinions on the presentation and how I could make these look nicer if necessary. Pics related is how my style sort of evolved over time.
