Why is this series so underappreciated?

Does anyone know why HokutoNoGun only subbed 86 episodes?

Short answer is that /a/ has some serious bad tastes. Another answer is that /a/ is too young for certain old series, or do you see golgo threads?

I recently started reading kinnikuman but got distracted by Osu! Karate bu that's also scanlated by the same group. Should I watch the anime or continue reading the manga?

Read the Manga if you can stomach it, I watched up to Episode 86 (as subbed by HokutoNoGun) before they stopped subbing it but the manga has some running things that didn't happen in the Anime like the Terry-Kinnikuman alliance "The Machine Guns"

Because it came first and is old. Kinnikuman is the granddaddy of all shounen and introduces everything that dragonball is known for. Power levels, training arcs, tournament arcs, rivals, villains and heroes. It started out as a joke manga but then gradually just became more serious until it became a staple of the industry.

Then toriyama came.

it's not fair bros, Dragonball is a lot less interesting than actual wrestling with tons of wacky deathmatch shit in there.

As much as I believe that this is just another case of bad taste, older series are just difficult to discuss in comparison to seasonal anime where anons can easily follow up on the new developments at roughly the same time. The problem is that when it comes to discussing older anime/manga, there is either way too much content for several anons to be on the same page or in my case, I haven't read Kinnikuman in a long time and thus I am forgetting much of the details. Granted, it had only been several years since that one touhou wrestling doujin got me into Kinnikuman in the first place, but even so, I don't even know where to begin when it comes to a general discussion. Hell, I don't even remember where I last left off. I blame Kinnikuman for my gyudon addiction and the games were pretty fun.

>>932925

Speaking of shounenshit trends and fads, wasn't Kinnikuman originally supposed to be a superhero themed manga? You would think that it would be just if not more popular than dragonball today.

This is why I started this thread, we should really spread out and make a guide or something. But essentially it'd be watch the Anime until the episodes run out (86 of them if you're watching subs) and then read the manga.

Yes, read the manga. The anime has a lot of filler and sometimes censorship, and the final arc having an OVA format hinders it quite a bit (as in, most of it is cut). It's a bit of a hurdle now, considering that it's going on to this day but the current scanslation used to visit here and also helped out with Lolikura Hold a bit as well is "love it or hate it", tends to localize quite a bit.

If you haven't got up to there yet, basically it's what Super should've been: Main character is rarely on the spotlight, and secondary fan favourites get to show off against new threats. Even daring to go as far as have characters like Curry Cook, Canadianman and Benkiman have serious matches. Also Big Body actually won a match.

>>932913

Apparently there's a story/rumor that says that DB used power levels to take the piss out of Kinnikuman. Which is funny considering that powerlevels in DB are taken seriously by most of its fans, especially as of lately.

>>932901

/a/ had a few threads while the manga was being scanlated, but they stopped since either the scanlator left or because besides him and a couple other posters there wasn't much discussion going on.

>>932937

>and the games were pretty fun.

Bless AKI for that, may they leave Style Savvy hell someday.

I was expecting Nemesis, but I guess this was the most logical choice.

I expected Geronimo or Neptuneman since they haven't done shit since the revival started.

>>932900

I speedread the entire manga including the 2011 revival and the answer is that is too hard to get into for modern weebs.

>art is amateurish as fuck, the author thought it would be a good idea to start a manga before actually learning how to draw, which wasn't a problem in the pure gag manga days but once it becomes an action comedy you can't ignore how lackluster the art is compared to even most manga from the same decade

>story full of inconsistencies and plotholes due to the author never actually planning anything through the classic run, and the amount of deus ex machina makes shit like Fairy Tail looks tame by comparison

>and while the 2011 revival is pretty damn good, you can't enjoy it properly if you don't have the context of the classic run

I'm glad at least who's translating the manga is keeping up with the releases

A few years ago we were so far behind the story

Though i hope someone scans all of ultimate muscle and translates ultimate tag, but that will wait

>>938248

I still hope we get an arc where geronimo gets to shine, also i really hope we get a new villain faction of humans who turned into chojins to give focus for character development

It's full of cringe potty humor. Hell, I really wish Kinnikuman had Dragon Ball levels of recognition, but it's really hard to recommend it when the series has so many moments like pic related.

The author is a boomer. A lot of manga from the 70's and 80's are full of potty humor, and Yudetamago probably thinks the potty humor is a essential part of the Kinnikuman series that should stay intact.

The original action manga in the fashion of modern battle shounen was Ring Ni Kakero, which was basically Ashita no Joe with super powers, but since it only got adapted in anime fucking 2 decades after the manga ended, you can say Kinnikuman is the original battle shounen anime.

The power levels in Kinnikuman are completely irrelevant unless it's a Buffaloman fight. Hell, in the final arc we had Mariposa who had a 100kk PL losing to Robin Mask who's PL is just 960k. Meanwhile the DB fandom goes nuclear when pic related happens.
