I don't think it's a real thing, but Japan does tend to eat things a lot sweeter than we're used to. I've noticed sugar in a lot of recipes where you wouldn't normally think to add sugar, and a lot of sauces tend to be pretty sweet.

I can never fully enjoy this show since it's always in the back of my mind how Nakano despite everything is still working his soul-destroying salaryman job (which he can't just quit and find something better because this is Japan) and Senko-san can only ever provide some momentary relief. His life is still a depressing mess with no change in sight.

Is his job that soul-destroying when he has Senko-san waiting for him at home? The reasons jobs like his are soul crushing is that the employees who work those jobs don't have any family, relationships, or friends to come back to. Their life revolves around their work, as they wallow in despair over the fact that the work they are doing is unfulfilling and pointless. Nakano has a 900 year old fox loli waiting for him at home, plus Shiro and friends, and that lets him be able to tolerate conditions that would drive the average Japanese salaryman to suicide.

It's a mix of natural response and the fact that tails are extremely sensitive to touch in most animals to the point where it can take years to train an animal to let you brush/fondle their tail. The only area considered "more sensitive" than a tail on most animals is their belly. I don't get ears though since almost all animals I know universally like to have their ears rubbed.

>Developers asked/forced to work overtime to compensate because corporate is full of sociopaths.
Happens all the time in American SW development unfortunately, difference being that over here we just leave because being asked for overtime is a huge death flag for any contract and most Devs get a huge pay raise when they switch jobs.
<tfw CEO says "We failed the customer" when the dev team did everything right and the people who made the bid over promised.
<tfw Manager behind him asks everyone to work more and that there MIGHT be overtime.
<tfw said manager mis-managed the project and stifled serious efforts that could have saved the project
<tfw the people responsible weren't fired or reprimanded, while a team of talented SW developers was let go
<tfw all those developers found better, higher paying jobs and just worked together because we liked each other.
Japan's sense of Service may be extreme, but always remember that at least 90% of managers are sociopaths who will act against everyone's interests including their own.

This is the dirtiest secret of SW development.
Technically it's on management and "Higher Ups" to find requirements, but the reality is that only developers have the expertise to actually figure out what the customer needs.
Not that the customer entertains the lowly developer nor does management try to promote this behavior.

I just want to deliver something. It's been over a year since my development team actually delivered anything for real. Everything is re-orgs and management changes and shitshows for months and then the project gets canceled and we do it all over again. Four projects in a row where nobody can make up their mind on the design or requirements so they just change it every week and we work out asses off trying to keep up just to see it finally get canceled because some exec wants the exact same thing but with a different codename. It's almost like the execs are TRYING to destroy the company.
It's demoralizing. I don't even care how bad the process is as long as at the end of it we produce SOMETHING. But it just keeps fizzling away into Sisyphus's hill of corporate web development.
Then come home at the end of every day to an empty apartment and microwave three day old leftovers from that frozen pizza you bought on Sunday and stare and 2D images of idealized females because that's the only psychologically pleasant thing in your world.

It probably has something to do with budgeting; your boss can't request a budget increase from his boss unless the current budget is exhausted. That's how executives and managers think. If the current budget got exhausted but the goal wasn't achieved, obviously the budget needs to be bigger. They're not trying to destroy the company, they're trying to deceptively justify their own existence. It's only a side effect that doing that will eventually destroy the company.
That all being said...don't tell anyone because then you'll lose your job along with the rest of your team. Keep track of it all and then if you ever get fired, send the whole list to all of the company's stockholders. You're not Sisyphus, you're Atlas. When the time comes, feel free to shrug.

My brother works in graphics design at a post production studio, mainly doing motion graphics stuff and sometimes limited 3D anims here and there. It's only him and his boss full time, but they have repeat customers who ask for certain things and constantly change their minds throughout the entire process.
Now with graphics you can pretty much make whatever you want, but the problems really pile up when you go full retard and start asking the artists to change more and more things deeper into the project progression. Adobe After Effects can have projects that are a total nightmare to untangle if the person who did the work for a section was a disorganized spaz, and it's ten times worse if the customer asks "okay instead of these circles moving here, can we make these lines instead? And move them this way and do this? You know just to see how it looks." And these corporate idiots don't understand that 1) it's a simple thing to say but can chew up hours of time, a "simple" change aesthetically is often times not simple at ALL in practice, and 2) they fucking ask for some of the most basic changes that shouldn't need to actually be done because you should have the ability to imagine something so simple. I've seen some of these requests, and they absolutely must come from NPC zombies who have no inner voice, they ask for project changes you should be able to easily visualize without chewing up project time and running up the deadline.
I mean imagine a landscape you've painted with a purple sky. It's the first color you put down. And of course you make it a gradient because it's a sky. Now imagine you finish painting the whole fucking thing, and someone comes along and asks "hey why don't we try making this sky look more red? Just to see how it is!" No, it's the fucking sky, literally everything else is layered on top of that. And even if by some miracle you spend hours to make the sky red, there's an excellent chance the person goes "okay yeah that's not so great, why don't we try X instead."

>( 線香花火 senkō hanabi ) (sparkler - literally: incense-stick fireworks)
>Senko hanabi are said to somehow hypnotize the watcher into silence and to evoke mono no aware (translated as "an empathy toward things," or "a sensitivity to ephemera"), a Japanese term describing a flash of sadness felt when reminded of the beauty and briefness of life. "The poignantly ephemeral has long been appreciated in Japan and is still felt in the quiet celebration of senko hanabi."
It's incredible how well-suited this meaning of "Senko" is to her name. I'm not sure it is intentional because the kanji are different for 仙狐さん, but it still brings a smile to my face.
