Anime Club III Anonymous 03/18/19 (seg) 07:57:53 No. 913534
We're bringing it back!
If you don't know what this is, the Anime Club was founded in 2015 as a way for us to all watch an anime together as if it was airing once a week in order to produce OC and experience what watching it with /a/ would have been like.
Now, the Anime Club has become something to resurrect every once in a while as a rare event, and each time it has been organized by someone else and in different ways. I aim to retain this tradition with ACIII, so this time around, I'm organizing it like this:
Yes, there will be a cytube stream. I know this goes against the original idea of us all watching it separately so we can produce OC, but worry not. I will be posting a DDL for each episode every week. Those who cannot make the time are encouraged to utilize this DDL to watch it on their own. Those who do make it are also encouraged to do the same and produce OC with it.
>When does it air?
Wednesday at 5PM PST. That is all. No split days for different shows, no twice a week. It's Wednesday at 5PM PST. This will hopefully remove all confusion. The only problem with this time is that it conflicts with the rare Waifu Wednesday r/a/dio stream, but it's the only time I'm able to host it every week, so I'm locking it in. This won't always be the case forever, however, which takes me to my next revision:
After my set of streams is over, if things go smoothly, I will appoint a successor the ability to stream the Anime Club cytube and let them organize Anime Club IV however they wish, and for whenever they wish. They are able to just not use the cytube at all if they don't want to.
Let me know if I get something in this part wrong, I know I'm missing some things.

NO DEMOCRACY
Sengoku Collection and KO Seiki Beast Sanjuushi episode 1 airs this Wednesday at 5PM PST. These two will form the basis of our regular schedule, lasting for one hour. Each stream we will also watch a short movie or OVA which will total the time spent for Anime Club each week to between 1.5 and 2 hours. Of course, I will be posting each thing I'm streaming each week on the day. ACIII will officially end at the last episode of Sengoku Collection.

No. Just like any other seasonal anime, AC stuff will air and /a/ talking about it will form the bias. There's enough short summaries online, just like any other season. Here's what I will say:
>Crest of the Stars is based on an award-winning Japanese Sci-Fi novel, not LN.
>KO Seiki Beast Sanjuushi is Silver Age GAINAX, after Otaku no Video and before Eva.
>Rumic World is a set of OVA adaptations of early manga by Rumiko (Ranma, Urusei Yatsura, Inuyasha).
>Sengoku Collection is - Huh? What is this?
Excited to watch these with you.

I have an archive of the first thread of the second club https://archive.fo/HaQ8Q
As I recall the shows we watched in Anime Club!! were:
>Record of Lodoss War
>Iria: Zeiram the Animation
>Bubblegum Crisis
>The Cockpit
>Rocket Girls
Which would agree with >>913541
You might be confusing them with the shows we watched for Anime Club! which were mixed in with each other and more scattered. Some of them were watched with barely any posts in the thread, mainly later movies and OVAs.
Long series:
>Miracle Girls (technically never finished in the club, threads died around the time of the 30th episode)
Short series:
>Kino no Tabi (2003)
OVA:
>Dream Hunter Rem
>Ellcia
Movies:
>Toki no Etranger
>Millenium Actress
>Colorful
>They Were Eleven! (Juuichinin iru!)
>Megazone 23 (Parts I, II, and III Episode 1 and Episode 2)
According to the timestamps on my screenshots, Anime Club! ran from July - October of 2016. Anime Club!! ran from July - November of 2018.

Now that it’s airing, I better come clean. I don’t know if I can really consider KO Seiki Beast Sanjuushi Gainax, but nobody can. It’s in a very unique place in history with a mysterious production nobody seems to know about. See, around this time, Gainax was going through a lot of issues after Nadia. The company fell for a number of cons in which they were given no production work, but forced to foot the bill of a string of unsuccessful projects, one of which, Money Wars, they had to finish animating on their own because they couldn’t pay their client to finish it.
I’ve read countless articles, interviews and the like about the early years of Gainax, and yet not once is this anime mentioned when every other title was. But, like I said, it’s in a unique place in history. Gainax underwent a dramatic change during this period of time. After Okada resigned, Akai, Sawamura and Takeda fired a swath of animators simply because they couldn’t pay them anymore and they supposedly weren’t working on any projects. Yamaga pretended to be relevent.
The fact that this anime exists baffles me. The things we do know are very few: Gainax funded it and after it finished, the company started to make a comeback, hosting the Gainax Festival, and then went into production on Eva. It also marks a union of some important figures in anime, Negishi Hiroshi (Saber Marionette, Tenchi Muyou!), Satoru Akahori (Saber Marionette, Video Girl Ai, Abenobashi), and marks the directional debut of Ishihara Tatsuya (Haruhi, Chuu2) for episode 3. They had all worked together before, under Production Reed on NG Knight Lamune & 40, which makes KO Beast even more of a mystery.
A theory I’ve come up with is that the reason nobody talks about it is because they can’t talk about it. We know that Gainax was doing some shady accounting at the time and the company was going under big time, with several loans under their belts after all the anime they funded and the drain that Aoki Uru had on them. Maybe there’s a legal reason they can’t talk about it. I don’t know. All I know is that this anime exists and it’s fucking bizarre. You can just say they funded a con studio that unexpectedly did well due to the talent known working on the project, but, I don’t know, some of the animation and story feels too “Gainax” for that explanation. I think maybe Gainax worked on it and hid the fact in order to bypass some tax laws or something. Who knows?

Google Trans:
<Originally, it was planning for a program after "Lamune & 40" (following previous work), but due to sluggish toy sales of the previous work, the prospect of TV animation can not be established and it changes to OVA. At first it was planned by three people of green onion, Ito and Nakahara, and Akahori joined after OVA was decided. Therefore, appearance of a pretty girl character, robot action, parody depiction and so on have many things in common with the previous work.
<The first OVA was originally one of the plans for the 某 adult anime video work, and in the early stage of the screenplay, the scene of the wet spot where One Davada, Bud Mint and May Mar are heavily intertwined intensely It existed.
<Takeuchi Ito "Rose sketches of Beast 3 Veterans" were published as "characters of a project that has fallen into death" in a single book of "The Universe Heroes Story", and the demand for work from readers increased to OVA There is a history.

Reading for next week's Sengoku Collection:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokugawa_Ieyasu
<Tokugawa Ieyasu
>Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康, January 31, 1543 – June 1, 1616) was the founder and first shōgun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan, which effectively ruled Japan from the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868. Ieyasu seized power in 1600, received appointment as shōgun in 1603, and abdicated from office in 1605, but remained in power until his death in 1616. He was one of the three unifiers of Japan, along with his former lord Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
>Ieyasu had a number of qualities that enabled him to rise to power. He was both careful and bold—at the right times, and in the right places. Calculating and subtle, Ieyasu switched alliances when he thought he would benefit from the change. He allied with the Late Hōjō clan; then he joined Hideyoshi's army of conquest, which destroyed the Hōjō; and he himself took over their lands. In this he was like other daimyōs of his time. This was an era of violence, sudden death, and betrayal. He was not very well liked nor personally popular, but he was feared and he was respected for his leadership and his cunning.
>He was capable of great loyalty: once he allied with Oda Nobunaga, he never went against him, and both leaders profited from their long alliance. He was known for being loyal towards his personal friends and vassals, whom he rewarded, He was said to have a close friendship with his vassal Hattori Hanzō.
>"Life is like unto a long journey with a heavy burden. Let thy step be slow and steady, that thou stumble not. Persuade thyself that imperfection and inconvenience are the lot of natural mortals, and there will be no room for discontent, neither for despair. When ambitious desires arise in thy heart, recall the days of extremity thou hast passed through. Forbearance is the root of all quietness and assurance forever. Look upon the wrath of thy enemy. If thou only knowest what it is to conquer, and knowest not what it is to be defeated; woe unto thee, it will fare ill with thee. Find fault with thyself rather than with others."
>"The strong manly ones in life are those who understand the meaning of the word patience. Patience means restraining one's inclinations. There are seven emotions: joy, anger, anxiety, adoration, grief, fear, and hate, and if a man does not give way to these he can be called patient. I am not as strong as I might be, but I have long known and practiced patience. And if my descendants wish to be as I am, they must study patience."

OP here.
I have come to offer my apologies. My work schedule just changed so I am unable to stream on Wednesday anymore. I am moving the Anime Club date to Friday at Five PM PST. This should also make it easier to remember because Friday and Five both start with F, so F Wednesday streams.
My lame jokes need to stop.
I will see you this Friday 3/29/19 at 5 PM PST.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uesugi_Kenshin
<Uesugi Kenshin
>Kenshin is famed for his honourable conduct, his military expertise, a long-standing rivalry with Takeda Shingen, his numerous campaigns to restore order in the Kantō region as the Kanto Kanrei, and his belief in the Buddhist god of war—Bishamonten. In fact, many of his followers and others believed him to be the Avatar of Bishamonten, and called Kenshin "God of War".
>His ceremony of departure to war started with praying at the shrine of Bishamonten, a traditional farewell meal with the generals with three dishes (symbolizing good fortune) and three cups, which also symbolized good luck and onmyōdō's heaven, earth and man. It was followed by two shouts "Ei!" (Glory") and "O!" (Yes!) with the assembled troops, also repeated three times, and the army standard lowered to the generals as a way of respect. In the end, Kenshin re-dedicated to the war god with the "bow of Hachiman", and mounted his horse surrounded by three flag banners; first with the first character of the Bishamonten's name, second with the red rising sun on blue (Emperor's gift), and the warring dragon flag.
>There was an incident when the Hōjō boycotted salt supplies to Kai Province. When Kenshin heard of Shingen's problem he sent salt to the Shingen from his own province. Kenshin commented that the Hōjō had "performed a very mean act". Kenshin added, "I do not fight with salt, but with the sword". His respect for Shingen is evident from when he died Kenshin privately wept and stated, "I have lost my good rival. We won't have a hero like that again!"
>"Even a life-long prosperity is but one cup of sake; A life of forty-nine years is passed in a dream; I know not what life is, nor death. Year in year out-all but a dream. Both Heaven and Hell are left behind; I stand in the moonlit dawn, Free from clouds of attachment."
>"Fate is in heaven, armor is on the chest, accomplishment is in the feet; always fight with your opponent in the palm of your hand, and you won't get wounded. If you fight willing to die, you'll survive; if you fight trying to survive, you'll die. If you think you'll never go home again, you will; if you hope to make it back, you won't. While it is not incorrect to consider the world uncertain, as a warrior one should not think of it as uncertain but as totally certain."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naoe_Kanetsugu
<Naoe Kanetsugu
>Kanetsugu was famed for his service to two generations of the Uesugi daimyōs.
>Kanetsugu served first as a koshō (小姓) to Uesugi Kenshin. After Kenshin had died, he served Kagekatsu, the adopted son of Kenshin.
>Naoe Kanetsugu was respected for his judgment. In "The Life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi," Walter and M.E. Dening recount an anecdote in which Hideyoshi, whose temporary unification of Japan paved the way for Ieyasu's shogunate, decides to visit Uesugi Kagekatsu, Kanetsugu's liege lord at the time, in person, accompanied by just a few retainers.
>On receipt of the news, Kagekatsu called a council to discuss what was best to do under the circumstances. The majority of the councilors advised the assassination of Hideyoshi, arguing that this was by far the simplest way of ridding themselves of a dangerous enemy. But Naoe Kanetsugu condemned this advice as unworthy of a man holding the position of Kagekatsu. "Hideyoshi's coming among us unguarded," said Kanetsugu, "is proof of his profound respect for our master. With lesser personages Hideyoshi would not so expose himself to danger. Knowing that our lord is a man of noble disposition, he trusts himself among us. Were we take advantage of this and slay him, the story of our baseness and treachery would be handed down to distant posterity to our eternal shame. No: let our master meet magnanimity with magnanimity; let him have an audience with Hideyoshi and let them see whether they cannot come to an understanding. If they cannot agree, then we will fight, but not till Hideyoshi has been sent back to his own country."

So, how was the first half of Triton? Is it as classic as oldfags claim it to be?
Are you enjoying the development of KO Beast? This episode had some nice action. Considering how the end had Akumako say, "Don't think this is the end!" and the OP is supposed to change, this OVA series was probably split between these first three and the latter four.
And did you like the Uesugi episode of SenColle?

It would definitely be a classic if the subs weren't so hilariously bad.
KO Beast is developing towards what I thought it would be in the beginning, some kind of mecha show.
Uesugi episode was the good kind of gay but Kantsugu's chin was huge and pointy. It's strange that Kenshin was so quick to give up any thought of war, but I suppose as she said given that the time they found themselves in was a time of peace, there was no reason to wage war. I suppose this relates to a common idea in anime that the strongest warriors only long for peace.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_Masamune
<Date Masamune
>Date Masamune was a regional ruler of Japan's Azuchi–Momoyama period through early Edo period. Heir to a long line of powerful daimyōs in the Tōhoku region, he went on to found the modern-day city of Sendai. An outstanding tactician, he was made all the more iconic for his missing eye, as Masamune was often called dokuganryū (独眼竜), or the "One-Eyed Dragon of Ōshu".
>Masamune's army was recognized by its black armor and golden headgear being known as the One-Eyed Dragon of Ōshu.
>Masamune is known for a few things that made him stand out from other daimyōs of the time. In particular, his famous crescent-moon-bearing helmet won him a fearsome reputation. As a child, smallpox robbed him of sight in his right eye, though it is unclear exactly how he lost the organ entirely. Various theories behind the eye's condition exist. Some sources say he plucked out the eye himself when a senior member of the clan pointed out that an enemy could grab it in a fight. Others say that he had his trusted retainer Katakura Kojūrō gouge out the eye for him, making him the 'One-Eyed Dragon' of Ōshu.
>In 1590, Toyotomi Hideyoshi seized Odawara Castle and compelled the Tōhoku-region daimyōs to participate in the campaign. Although Masamune refused Hideyoshi's demands at first, he had no real choice in the matter since Hideyoshi was the virtual ruler of Japan. Masamune still delayed, infuriating Hideyoshi. Expecting to be executed, Masamune, wearing his finest clothes and showing no fear, faced his angry overlord. Not wanting further trouble, Hideyoshi spared his life, saying that "He could be of some use."
>Tokugawa Ieyasu awarded Masamune the lordship of the huge and profitable Sendai Domain, which made Masamune one of Japan's most powerful daimyōs. Tokugawa had promised Masamune a one-million koku domain, but, even after substantial improvements were made, the land only produced 640,000 koku, most of which was used to feed the Edo region. In 1604, Masamune, accompanied by 52,000 vassals and their families, moved to what was then the small fishing village of Sendai. He left his fourth son, Date Muneyasu, to rule Iwadeyama. Masamune would turn Sendai into a large and prosperous city.
>Although Tokugawa Ieyasu and other Date allies were always suspicious of him, Date Masamune for the most part served the Tokugawa and Toyotomi loyally. He took part in Hideyoshi's campaigns in Korea, and in the Osaka campaigns. When Tokugawa Ieyasu was on his deathbed, Masamune visited him and read him a piece of Zen poetry. Masamune was highly respected for his ethics; a still-quoted aphorism is, "Rectitude carried to excess hardens into stiffness; benevolence indulged beyond measure sinks into weakness."
>Masamune expanded trade in the otherwise remote, backwater Tōhoku region. Although initially faced with attacks by hostile clans, he managed to overcome them after a few defeats and eventually ruled one of the largest fiefdoms of the later Tokugawa shogunate. He built many palaces and worked on many projects to beautify the region. He is also known to have encouraged foreigners to come to his land. Even though he funded and promoted an envoy to establish relations with the Pope in Rome, he was likely motivated at least in part by a desire for foreign technology, similar to that of other lords, such as Oda Nobunaga. Further, once Tokugawa Ieyasu outlawed Christianity, Masamune reversed his position, and though disliking it, let Ieyasu persecute Christians in his domain. For 270 years, Tōhoku remained a place of tourism, trade and prosperity. Matsushima, for instance, a series of tiny islands, was praised for its beauty and serenity by the wandering haiku poet Matsuo Bashō.
>He showed sympathy for Christian missionaries and traders in Japan. In addition to allowing them to come and preach in his province, he also released the prisoner and missionary Padre Sotelo from the hands of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Date Masamune allowed Sotelo as well as other missionaries to practice their religion and win converts in Tōhoku.
>Masamune notably funded and backed one of Japan's few journeys of far-flung diplomacy and exploration in this period. He ordered the building of the exploration ship Date Maru or San Juan Bautista, using foreign (European) ship-building techniques. He sent one of his retainers, Hasekura Tsunenaga, Sotelo, and an embassy numbering 180 on a successful voyage to establish relations with the Pope in Rome. This expedition visited such places as the Philippines, Mexico, Spain and Rome. Previously, Japanese lords had never funded this sort of venture, so it was probably the first successful voyage.[8] At least five members of the expedition stayed in Coria (Seville) of Spain to avoid the persecution of Christians in Japan. 600 of their descendants, with the surname Japón (Japan), are now living in Spain.

Yes, I'm sorry. There's actually a bit more homework this time around, but it should be much more interesting than previous weeks for those already up to speed on most of the famous daimyous of the age.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsukahara_Bokuden
<Tsukahara Bokuden
>A famous swordsman of the early Sengoku period. He was described as a kensei (sword saint). He was the founder of a new Kashima style of kenjutsu, and served as an instructor of Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshiteru.
>Tsukahara Bokuden was the classic knight-errant; a rich nobleman, he travelled the Japanese countryside, often with a full entourage. He later systematized the teaching of the Kashima area's local martial arts, including such approaches to combat as Kashima no tachi and Ichi no tachi. After allegedly receiving a divine inspiration from Takemikazuchi no kami, the deity of Kashima Shrine, he named his martial system as Kashima Shintō-ryū. He also, for a brief period, called his system Mutekatsu-ryū ("winning without hands").
>In one anecdote recorded in the Kōyō Gunkan, Bokuden was challenged by a mannerless ruffian. When asked about his style, Bokuden replied that he studied the "Style of No Sword". The ruffian laughed and insultingly challenged Bokuden to fight him without a sword. Bokuden then agreed to fight the man without his sword but suggested they row out to a nearby island on Lake Biwa to avoid disturbing others. The ruffian agreed, but when he jumped from the boat to the shore of the island, drawing his blade, Bokuden pushed the boat back out, leaving the ruffian stranded on the island. Bokuden explained: "This is my no-sword school".
>A famous Japanese folk tale tells of the young Miyamoto Musashi challenging Bokuden to a duel during a meal. When Musashi struck first, Bokuden parried the sword with the lid of the iron pot he was eating from.
>Those devoted to the art of Japanese sword-fighting, would make pilgrimages to the Kashima Shrine because it is considered the spiritual home of kenjutsu.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashikaga_Yoshiteru
<Ashikaga Yoshiteru
>The 13th shōgun of the Ashikaga shogunate.
>Surrounded by daimyōs who intended only to use the authority of shogun for their own good, Yoshiteru still managed to reaffirm the shōgun's authority by active diplomacy that extended to every part of Japan. By trying to negotiate a peace between such well-known daimyōs as Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin, Shimazu Takahisa, Ōtomo Yoshishige, Mōri Motonari, and Amago Haruhisa, the shogun's authority was again recognized by various daimyōs.
>Because of his inner strength and the katana skills that he was known to have practiced regularly, Yoshiteru was called the "Kengo shōgun" and was closer to being a samurai and a warlord than any shōgun since Ashikaga Takauji. One of his sword-fighting instructors was Tsukahara Bokuden, the founder of Kashima Shintō-ryū.
>"The May rain falls, and is it my tears or the mist that surround me? Hototogisu, take my name and soar above the clouds"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yagy%C5%AB_Munetoshi
<Yagyuu Munetoshi
>A samurai in Japan's Sengoku period famous for mastering the Shinkage-ryū school of combat, and introducing it to the Tokugawa clan. He was also known as Shinsuke, or Shinzaemon.
>Munetoshi's prowess in Shinkage-ryū and Mutō-dori was known by Tokugawa Ieyasu, at that time still Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s loyal general. Ieyasu was highly interested in the martial arts, and he arranged for a meeting with Munetoshi at Takagamine, north of Kyoto. Munetoshi brought his fifth son, Munenori, with him to demonstrate. After explaining the philosophy of Shinkage-ryū, they demonstrated some of the kata of the ryū, as well as Mutō-dori. However, Ieyasu wished to see for himself, so he took up a bokutō, a wooden sword, and requested that Munetoshi demonstrate Mutō-dori on him. Munetoshi successfully did so, sending Ieyasu's bokutō flying away and knocking Ieyasu onto his back.[4] Impressed, Ieyasu asked Munetoshi to teach him Shinkage-ryū. Munetoshi refused, citing his advanced age, and recommended his son Munenori. Ieyasu agreed, and signed an oath to learn Shinkage-ryū, and to treat the Yagyū with favor. Munenori went with Ieyasu, and was given the post of hatamoto, or standard bearer.
>Like many other great figures in Japanese history, Munetoshi has become a popular figure in literature, movies, video games and other media, and has accumulated a number of exaggerated tales and legends about him. In Yagyū Village, near the Yagyū family burial ground, is a large rock called Itto-seki, which has been split in half. Though it was most probably split by lightning or earthquake, legend says that Munetoshi cleaved it himself with his sword.

<Hiraga Gennai
>Hiraga Gennai (平賀 源内, 1728 – January 24, 1780) was an Edo period Japanese pharmacologist, student of Rangaku, physician, author, painter and inventor who is well known for his Erekiteru (electrostatic generator), Kanmoistei (thermometer) and Kakanpu (asbestos cloth). He also wrote the satirical essay "On Farting".
>In his scientific experiments, he prospected for various ores, wove asbestos, calculated temperatures, and worked with static electricity. Gennai also studied Western painting and ceramics techniques, and produced a number of works in that vein.
>He made or instructed a number of Japanese pottery pieces which are named Gennai ware after him. The style is unique with brilliant colours, mostly three, following the Kōchi ware style.

Ah yeah, time for one of the best episodes in the series.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsuo_Bash%C5%8D
<Matsuo Basho
>Matsuo Bashō (松尾 芭蕉, 1644–1694), born 松尾 金作, then Matsuo Chūemon Munefusa (松尾 忠右衛門 宗房), was the most famous poet of the Edo period in Japan. During his lifetime, Bashō was recognized for his works in the collaborative haikai no renga form; today, after centuries of commentary, he is recognized as the greatest master of haiku (then called hokku). Matsuo Bashō's poetry is internationally renowned; and, in Japan, many of his poems are reproduced on monuments and traditional sites. Although Bashō is justifiably famous in the West for his hokku, he himself believed his best work lay in leading and participating in renku. He is quoted as saying, "Many of my followers can write hokku as well as I can. Where I show who I really am is in linking haikai verses."
>Bashō was introduced to poetry at a young age, and after integrating himself into the intellectual scene of Edo (modern Tokyo) he quickly became well known throughout Japan. He made a living as a teacher; but then renounced the social, urban life of the literary circles and was inclined to wander throughout the country, heading west, east, and far into the northern wilderness to gain inspiration for his writing. His poems were influenced by his firsthand experience of the world around him, often encapsulating the feeling of a scene in a few simple elements.
I highly urge you all to read more about him and some of his stuff. He's legendary.

Just reminding you that KO Beast is now over.
We're moving on the Seikai no Monshou, the most well-known of the things I wanted to watch with y'all.
Akai Takami, one of the original founders of Gainax did the character designs for this. During one interview he had at a Gaijin con, a Gaijin told him he was concerned about Akai promoting fascism by working on the series. To this, Akai said something like the people living under any system of government can believe in the state they were born in, so they can be just as viable and righteous in their cause.
See you in two hours.

I recently watched the first Umi no Triton movie I missed watching with you guys, and while they didn't cut out as much as they did in part 2, they still cut a lot of what made the anime special and about why the characters do certain things.
You missed out on the world hating Triton and thinking he's a omen of disaster (they're right) and ostracizing him from all human villages they find. Triton actually tried to run from his duty as a Triton and go back to his Uncle at one point. Even the sea creatures hated Triton, and the dolphins living at Dolphin island ostracized him the same why the humans did. In the end, too, his presence got them all killed and their home exploded with Poseidon's mekara beam.
This teaches Triton that he can't rest anywhere. He can't do anything but what destiny has laid out for him and his whole life from then on is a sole duty to end Poseidon's rule.
Pipi's tsun was also much better explained. She was treated like a princess in the North, yes, but when Triton showed up, his presence killed her whole world, including her father-walrus. This is just like Triton's relationship with everyone else. Whenever he shows up, he fucks up their whole world. The Olihan dagger was the first time she saw anything like fire and that's when she started showing signs of an intense fear of fire, convincing Triton to not use it. Whenever he unsheathed the dagger at that point in the anime, it was a momentous occasion he tortured himself over, fearing it himself and thinking that might be the cause of his shitty destiny.
There's a lot more to say about the series, too, but the movies really didn't capture the themes or characterization at all. I'm sorry about that.
Also, turns out the 2nd movie was made almost a decade after the first, which was only made as a shingle showing for the Yamato Festival.

>The Baronh language is derived from the ancient Japanese language, spoken until the beginning of the ninth century and recorded in “Kojiki”, “Man’yōshū” and other ancient documents. It is not precisely the ancient language itself, but a reconstructed one which is named “Takamagahara language” after the mythological heaven in “Kojiki”. In “Crest of the Stars”, Japanese revolutionists seeking to remove foreign influence from the Japanese language created their own “purified”version, which removed borrowed words and expressions and revived ancient ones. It was these revolutionists who established the colony that created the Abh, giving them their language.
>After the Abh were freed from slavery, their language quickly, in a few generations, changed into the form seen in Morioka’s works of fiction. Having not been allowed to write as slaves, the Abh previously had no writing system, and that is the biggest reason why this change proceeded so swiftly. In order to write Baronh, an alphabet called “Ath”, which means “letter”, was created, derived from the roman Latin alphabet but rooted in the Japanese kana.
>During the long voyages and isolation of the Abh, they developed their own variation which is now Baronh.

The atmosphere of the first episode of Sekai no Monshou was great. I really liked the scene where the assistant drives Jinto and has to stop himself from lashing out at him.
With that said, I thought that filter they used in a couple of scenes was strange and I'm not sure what they were going for with it.

Finally going to write out a number of brief disjointed thoughts for this. It has that fairly standard 90's style of humor which is fine. Bud's constant usage of English made him my favorite character, though Yuni was the cutest. The mecha action was well done even if it only really comes in at the second half (episodes 4-7). The first half feels more like the beginning of a fantasy adventure, almost Slayers like in a lot of ways now that I think about it. It feels mostly like science fantasy until the last episode when the science fiction comes into play with all the background. I expected that one scene where older Yuni remembers the fish, the turtle, the bird, and the dog to come up again but it didn't. I'm a little unsure why such an obvious piece of foreshadowing was left unexplained (unless I missed something). I suppose it was the origin of the beast races. Finally, the OP was great. Good but not unexceptional is my final verdict.

>The story follows the two titular girls Escha and Chron, whose contrasting personalities are like the sun and moon. The two girls are from Terminal, a future post-apocalyptic world that's empty and monochrome. The two girls cross worlds and arrive in the present day, which they call Transit.
>As Escha and Chron experience the light (scenery) and sound (music) of the real world, the future world of Terminal gradually changes into a more vivid world.

The quality is so bad considering it's a DVD rip. I think it's ripped from the American release.
At first I thought the prologue in the beginning was awkward, but then I thought it might be good to get the setting out of the way so that we can get to the action faster. But we don't and barely anything happens in the first episode.
The pacing feels a little awkward and so does the storyboard. Inexperienced director I guess.
I like the fact that the aliens went to alien equivalent of high school, got into love triangles, then after graduation they join a company which it's business is invading other planets and while invading a planet they have to concern themselves with mundane things such budget cuts and audits. This kind of stuff makes me want to read the novel.
The fights start early on the second episode to make up for the lack of action on the first one. It starts off well with the robot getting launched to the battle in a rocket ship, I don't know how accurate it actually was but things like the angle the rocket was when the robot detached itself from it looked really natural. Aside from that I thought they put too much attention on the monsters and not enough on Ariel. That is my biggest complaint with the OVA.
I saw the new Ariel figure that is on pre order right now on amiami and that was actually what made me want to watch this anime, but it didn't really deliver.

It really is much better than Visual's episode 1. I have to wait for episode 2 to make a final judgement but although Deluxe is more enjoyable to watch than Visual it also feels less ambitious in a way. We don't see much of the dynamic between the girls like there was in Visual, like one of them wants to go to college and hates piloting Ariel, the other one doesn't mind piloting as long as her rent is paid and the tomboy seems to even like (?) piloting Ariel but still says she dislikes it in front of her sisters.
This is the first .webm I've ever made. I don't know why the subs are off centered and xmedia didn't cut the video exactly where I told it to.

I also liked Deluxe better but Visual's second episode was quite good. Given that the show is an obvious homage to Ultraman, only with a mecha musume in place of Ultraman, delaying the kaiju action to the end makes sense, with a semi-related plot filling in the rest. Generally Ultraman was just a vehicle for kaiju fights. The absence of any actual kaiju action in the first episode of Visual is what makes the entire episode feel lacking.

Last week Google was being a butt, so we had to call it off. This week we'll be watching those episodes we missed plus this week's selection back to back in the cytube.
I've also started playing the one-off OVAs first in the line up.
