I wouldn't put it past them. The One Piece anime is bloated with filler and padding to the point that some episodes contain only a few minutes of original animation. It's apparently gotten better since the Dressrosa arc, but that's still almost 900 episodes, plus more once the series finish, to try and sell to audiences.. Cleaning things up and compressing it down to a tidier runtime would undoubtedly get people to watch the whole thing over again and probably bring in new fans.

Where Whole Cake fucked up the tension was in the way that everything happened over the course of about 3 days, all back to back. Luffy never really rested and got into fights constantly and piled up absurd amounts of damage. The closest thing to downtime we got was them hanging around with the Firetank pirates and drinking milk.

Wano is taking place over a much longer span of time, and it's giving the characters a chance to settle into appropriate roles and jobs for their skillsets. They're hiding in plain sight, setting up elaborate plans, and investigating a little bit at a time. We're getting a chance to see all the major players and really understand the stakes, instead of just running headfirst into the plot and being cock-blocked with fights that only exist to stall the story, like Luffy vs Cracker.

It feels like Oda is trying to recreate Marineford, but Marineford worked because many of the characters participating in the war were already known. Most of the set_up for Marine Ford was done dozens and hundreds of chapters before the actual arc started,.The current war arcs include their entire set-up, which makes them a slog to read through.

It's about time that we got a good, impactful chapter like this. Yasu suddenly became an awesome character. The plot advanced in a way that wasn't a clusterfuck that turned into a wet fart. Someone actually fucking died. We got some development with Otoko, and we're gonna learn what's really up with Kaidou's "SMILE"

I really hope the next few chapters really pick up the pace. Everyone has pretty much gathered at the capital and obviously Big Mom can't show up until shit hits the fan. It's a bizarre moment because as Yasu said he's wiped the slate clean to allow the plotters time and space to get their shit together again.

I don't get how Yasu accomplished what he set out to accomplish. His goal was to make the rebellion tattoo seem like just a prank. But he admitted that he, who clearly conspired against Orochi, designed the symbol after the resistance was crushed. Put two and two together and that tattoo is STILL a symbol of the resistance, loud and clear. But for some reason now Orochi's soldiers are supposed to believe that everyone who has the tattoo designed by the guy who just trash-talked Orochi and made it clear he wanted to depose Orochi are, in-fact, totally innocent. What?

Marineford worked because it was a complete surprise to many of the main characters and was a culmination of several character threads intersecting with the main characters, but barely explored. Ace's chase for Black-beard has, I think, 1 part where we break away from the Straw Hats completely, Ace's battle with Blackbeard. Here, as pointed out, we've been rushing everywhere, partly because the main characters are split apart and doing so for long periods of time rather than staying together.

Dressrosa - split (into the Zo Arc and then from there into the Whole Cake and Wano Arcs) The crew hasn't been whole for years in terms of publication and even in the One Piece verse its been weeks if not months.

y'know One Piece has been dragging on for so long and so much since the Time Skip that I can't feasibly relate the characters to their pre-Timeskip selves. For all the hamfisted mentions I can't relate the current Luffy to the one who almost rescued Ace only to see him die. Or to the Luffy who saved the Alabasta kingdom or who beat Don Kreig. The spirit of the original series is dead and now its just a cheap beating of a dead horse.

I don't know why people just assume it wasn't Queen's attack that knocked out Big Mom just because she wasn't knocked down straight away. My impression was that the hit had a delayed effect on top of restoring her memory. It hit, it shook her brain up, and then made her go unconscious after the adrenaline faded.
