It's not a good anime or anything but no question is that it was made for me, and I love it. I already liked Akiba's Trip 2 for its setting and concept so the anime already interested me. But episode 3 which started off making fun of idol fans and audiophiles and ended with a strip fight at Rei no Pool, that sealed it hard. From there it's got its ups and downs but the episode where they made fun of Yu-Gi-Oh! was brilliant, and episode 11 onwards is proving sadly prophetic but I liked it until the ridiculous anime finish.

Conversely, I know Akiba's Beat did very badly, and that one I haven't even played because of the move away from ridiculous fanservice stripper on top of not being playable on a jailbroken Vita. It is now so I might play it some time, but I feel a bit betrayed by it. Akiba's Trip 2 wasn't great or anything but the battle mechanics were serviceable, and the concept of beating people up with computer keyboards then ripping their clothes off in a faithful recreation of Akihabara was a 10/10. It's one of my most loved games for that.

Oh yeah despite some inaccuracies it's also clear the makers have love for the subject matter, and they don't deliberately take serious liberties like a lot of Western media does. I get the same feeling from the Neptunia series. Hell, a lot of Japanese media does this, like thinking of the way computers are portrayed in Excel Saga and Maidragon.

My impression was that Beat might still be playable, but not what I'm after in the series. I'd probably not regret checking it out given half the bad things I like. Also the PC episode was easily a favourite and I'm not ashamed to admit it made me tear up at the end.

It's worth a try. Bear in mind though that Akiba's Trip 2 was questionably localized by NISA, although the game also allows you to switch text and voices to Japanese, and to my knowledge they didn't censor anything unlike Akiba's Beat which took out a KKK reference. Vita's version is somewhat cut down with less people wandering around, and also framerate problems (somewhat addressed with the overclocking options though) so only do that one if you want portability, it also exists on PS3 and PC. Can't comment on the original PSP game.

The anime is a very loose adaptation of the game that mainly keeps the theme of celebrating Akihabara and the subcultures that are associated with it. The characters in the anime aren't in the game.

The main cast is actually different between them all, but on the whole, the girls were definitely likeable in the anime and the second game. However with the anime the main test is whether you like how the setting and how it panders to different nerdy subcultures, and for Akiba's Trip 2, the test is whether you like the concept and setting.

I'll specially mention Kati, Rin, Shion, and Nana from the second game as favourites. You are under no circumstances to play with the dub. Only the first main villain sounds good in that. The anime cast is generally nice, especially Mayo.
