Sad the last thread got ignored off the page. This most recent cyberpunk-flavored series has been amazing, especially compared to the fucking retarded 2015 series about going into the dreams of dead people. There's only a few episodes left but I had to share how hilarious this most recent plot twist was.

So there's this new app called PeopleLog that runs user uploaded data through an algorithm that confirms the veracity of the information. This means that Lupin III is easily tracked everywhere in the world by anyone with a camera, even constantly on the run. How does he, a lowly criminal, beat this legal new technology and the multi-billion dollar corporate superpower behind it? He leaks incriminating documents on various governments through it and the politicians being incriminated immediately make it illegal. I wonder how long it will take for Wikileaks to be criminalized irl.

I should probably wait til the last episode's credits roll, but so far I give this series a solid 9/10. For the record I have given most Lupin I've seen a 6/10 in the past; above average but not something I particularly look forward to watching. There were like 5 eps in this one that really felt like they had a different (lazier) writing staff, but even they were decent. And they finally added the one thing that's been missing from Lupin III all these years: an autistic hacker loli.

Why do Italians like this shit so much? I get that it is a good series I have watched it and while it wasn't my cup of tea I thought it had well developed characters, interesting plots, a decent amount of fairly good humor. It was an enjoyable popcorn kind of watch. But for some fucking reason the spaghettiniggers I all know treat this series like it is the second coming of Jesus. I have had two guido friends get into a nightlong argument that ended up in a drunken fight over the color of Lupin's jacket or something.

Series finale was really confusing. I'll chalk it up to poor translation but I liked the penultimate ep a lot better. I stand by my 9/10 overall rating though. My favorite ep was probably the slice-of-life ep where Lupin lets Fujiko in while drunk. By the way, in the finale, what was Lupin's secret? That he wore a mask that had his real face? Is it supposed to be an ambiguous deus ex machina?

Because it was one of the few shows that aired at consistent schedules all throughout the 80s and 90s with a really good dub and plenty of jokes actually repurposed rather than translated as-is and it had a completely different pace compared to the other shows, which were mostly either sports anime, shonen or shoujo. Also the hardened-cop-on-witty/unscrupulous-thief movie/show genre was very popular (if not even started) in Italy and it resonated with the taste of the time.

Other than that, most teens watched it hoping to see Fujiko's tiddies and Ultras really fucking love the fact that Lupin looks as malicious as them. Ghetto sport aesthetics are hilarious, horrific and bizarre at the same time but damn if it's not comfy to see poor ms pain versions of anime characters plastered on huge banners.

Lupin (the first) was French. I think the show is generally set in Japan unless specified otherwise though. It's usually quite vague.
