I've begun work on the good book, as promised. I apologize for the long delay up until now, but I haven't had a chance to sit down and begin work on it. These are the very early days of this project, but it's a proof of concept. Perhaps one day it will be completed, perhaps it won't. At the risk of rule 4, I would like anons to help contribute to this work as well so it is not simply the Magnum Opus of one man, but a book to be passed down digitally (and possibly printed) for years to come. The good book to be precise. As of right now, important things that I'd like to consult anons about are things like...

>Quotes (especially those from depression blocks of streams)

>Passage contributions

>Passage suggestions and additions

>Consultation on where to take this project from here

>etc.

This thread should serve well as a base of operations. I feel that work needs to be made no in honor of the anons we've lost and to guide those anons we haven't lost so they do not join Gensokyo before their time. Obviously there'll be a section on Gensokyo as well. This is both an important work and an urgent work that I will be working on over the next several months, binding together the ideals of anons as well as my own thoughts into its creation. Eventually the goal should be to put it on a public editing site after it's reached a point where it's ready to be shared. The Good Book will be a living document, after all.

 No.859983

Scribeanon here. Those quotes and such from the r/a/dio threads and elsewhere will be ready by Christmas, so hopefully this thread lasts until then.

Why not put the post number of an anon instead of simply quoting "Anonymous" everytime?

I hope you don't mean Smiley. That guy was a bit much.

I just remembered that this anon was quoting me after my post of despair about being still looking. He was so right, it's amazing. She was always there, waiting for me.

Awesome. I have a few saved, but unfortunately I seem to be missing a number of them that I was looking for.

>>859990

I like this idea. I'll try to implement it where I can remember to. I can't find my archive of the "dakis ain't nothing but hoes and tricks" post, but I know some anon has that screenshot.

>>859992

Thank you, I appreciate it. Y-yes that's exactly who I meant. He was a bit much, but he's an important part of our cultures and traditions.

Might I suggest a religious excerpt?

Meyjar orðum Maiden's speech

skyli manngi trúa, should no man trust,

né því er kveður kona, nor which a woman says,

því að á hverfanda hveli for on a whirling wheel

voru þeim hjörtu sköpuð, their hearts were shaped,

brigð í brjóst um lagin. falsehood fixed in their chest.

Stanza 84 of the Hávamál the words of Odin.

I'll have to read up more on Anima but I feel it'll fit well in the beginning passage. I'll have to do a lot more research into Hermes Trismegistus, but I believe his works would fit well into the /x/-related section on magic and its relationship to the waifu.

>>859998

Added. The goal of the first section is to take excerpts from various religious texts while tying them into waifuism. Later that section will be expanded with historical accounting and historical stories of waifus and the like.

 No.860002

I'm quite tired, so this will likely be rambling, but I'd like to put down my opinion on the importance of merch.

Now the benefit of merchandise (or any physical representation of your waifu) is that it offers a passive way for her to exist in your life or consciousness. Without it, you are relying on active ways to keep her in your thoughts and mind. Like watching her anime, browsing through pictures or simply thinking of her. These work, but require time, effort and concentration (though I doubt any would complain.) Merchandise offers an easier way to keep her in your thoughts, and thus exist in your life. It can be a well placed figure you see every time you enter your room, or a daki you hold as you fall asleep each night. Even a simple picture of her on your desk can work, but I believe it is important to have at least one physical representation of your waifu somewhere. It can ensure she remains in your consciousness as much as possible, even when you are tired or distracted by other things in life.

I don't even know if other Anons agree with this. It's just how I feel about it.

I've set my merchandise up like a shine of sorts in one of my book shelves on my desk. I think it brings me good fortune with offerings of cigarettes and such.

 No.860005

>>860003

That's pretty neat. I've taken the opposite approach and have strategically placed figures all over my room so that I can see at least one from any location that I'm commonly in.

I guess this thread is as good a place as any to post the titles of a small group of works of what I am calling Gensokyo Literature, i.e. literature about escapism. These aren't escapist stories that draw you in and help you escape from reality, they are about escapism itself, often about someone escaping from reality to an ideal place or what we call a waifu or to a dream world. Dreams and Gensokyo go hand in hand after all. I haven't included any texts about religious paradises since that's not exactly literature. I also haven't included any anime, manga, VN, LN, etc. since for the moment I'm looking for things outside of that area and haven't really looked in that direction yet. The list itself is minuscule right now anyway since it is a very narrow definition. Any suggestions for inclusion from anons are welcome. I think if you read what I have you might get the idea of what I mean. As it is, you've already included the most obvious one, the story of Pygmalion and Galatea. The list:

Pygmalion and Galatea (Ovid's Metamorphoses 10.243-297)

Guingamor

Graelant

Lanval (in two versions)

Celephais and Ex Oblivione (two short stories from Lovecraft's Dream Cycle)

As for section VII the song "The impossible dream" by Andy Williams fits perfectly.

I can already tell this is going to be a great work passed down to generations to come. The whole thing reminds me of the bible and how it was written over time by different people and was more of a collection of related teachings. Unfortunately I'm not a good enough writer to help.

You should also put some images in there, to make it more beautiful to look, such as the one in the OP

Speaking of that image, where did you get it? What is it portraying? Is it a specific setting?

Good work, Anon. One suggestion I have is consider keeping a changelog going forward. As this thing gets bigger it might be hard for Anons to critique updates if they don't know what's changed. I doubt people will read through the whole thing every revision to see what's different and small changes might get overlooked.

 No.860327

>>860315

I'm planning on making changes be in red ink for each new rendition, but I could see about making a ghostbin changelog. As a side note, how would anons feel about the book being password protected going forward?

>>860327

>password protected

Why though? I don't have any problem with it but I don't see the point.
