In much the same vein as the others in this thread, I either wanted L to win or the story to end with his death. I would have preferred a death of both main characters honestly, but just one of the two walking away would have been an acceptable end to the series.
>>859085
It doesn't have to be good to be enjoyable. I personally love over the top hyper dramatic keikaku type stuff. It's great for a laugh. It's the same reason Code Geass was fun... you couldn't take all the asspulls seriously at all and that sweet sweet campy cheese was great.

I was legitimately shocked when Light died, he also died like a pussy. In retrospect, he probably deserved it.
No.859204
No, nor was I sad when it ended.
>>859159
I was a Kira fag too. There was nothing wrong with the idea of Kira, but Light really was shit from the very beginning. As smart as he was supposed to be, he made the most retarded mistakes out of pride and was probably a literal faggot. Also, the implication in the manga that Near used the notebook to win makes the ending better than the anime's, as it explains why everybody acted slightly more retarded than usual and brings a "you sneaky motherfucker" sort of closure to the story.
No.859350
Is this some new kind of trend?
No.859402
>>859159
Same. It seemed like a complete ass-pull, a cosmic contrivance of events that allowed Near to win. Light made some stupid mistakes, sure, but nothing definitive. There was just so many things that had to fall into place (much of it dumb luck) to allow that to happen, including Matsuda randomly growing a pair and deciding to shoot Light (and then Light losing his shit instead of just trying something else, like he did EVERY OTHER TIME). If it was revealed that someone had held the manga author at gunpoint and forced him to write an ending where Light loses because "bad guys should always lose!" it would not surprise me.
But really, DN is the kind of manga you can only read once, or at most twice. After you know all the twists and turns and the keikaku and cliffhangers and reveals, it's actually a very shallow and boring plotline.

I'm re watching Death Note right now, and as a non edgy teenager, Light makes the most retarded mistakes, either out of pride or stupidity What's the point of killing the fbi agent after he was past their suspicious? Killing him, via heart attack no less tells, L he was probably under investigation a few days ago. Is it ever brought up that Light was probably the last person to talk to his fianceé who had important information about Kira and this fact was witnessed by multiple police officers and probably cameras?

L and Light had different arsenals, one had a ghost and a magic notebook, the other had the police and the government(?) behind him. Plus L was too suspicious while investigating Light, even commenting that his life was too normal and thus even more suspicious, after seeing him reading a hentai, like what did he expect Light, a model A student, to do in order to get off the hook, do drugs? Shitpost on 2ch? Write fanfiction?
That's why I wanted and example from when they worked together to catch the Kira businessman, because they both had the same goal, the same resources, they worked together, L didn't suspect Light as being Kira, and Light didn't know he was Kira and acted as such.

When Light killed the fake L on TV, I already instinctly knew that was a bad idea. This cat and mouse game only had any leads because that one fuck up.
Is the extent of Light's plan simply "clean up Gotham City"? No taking down dictators and crime lords? At least, Lelouch had an end goal.

Yes. It's obvious from the start when L's kid brother somehow figures out(not suspects, but is outright SURE of the fact) Light is L on his very first meeting. And then some bullshit with the death note being strapped on to a rocket really shows you how much of shitshow you're in for.

>Was there ever a moment in were L was shown to be smarter/quicker to figure out things than Light
Maybe not when you put it like that, but he still had the advantage. He had more experience as an investigator (especially at first, was able to trick Light easily by just making him assume nobody could be as smart as him), the backing of several powerful organizations, and only had to catch Kira (and later, prove that Light was Kira). Light was working almost entirely on his own, AND had to evade detection by police WHILE working with the police, AND at the same time keep on killing people.
>>860229
Always made me wonder exactly how far Light went to prove he was normal, when he knew L had put cameras all over his bedroom. Did he ever hide the Note underneath his pillow, and keep up the deaths while simultaneously looking at hentai? Did- did knowing L was watching him, get him off?
"Just watch me, L! I'll flip through porn with my right hand, while writing down names with my left. I'll take my dick... and STROKE IT!!"

Also because Light saying "I've won, Near!" is somehow an admission of guilt. Given nothing else, the WORST they could have actually charge him with is conspiracy if they could prove his association with Mikami. That is assuming they would even have the balls to publicly try someone for "mass-murder with a magical notebook".

They can just make a secret trial, to which the public has no access to, and there they can present the evidence to a select few individuals, and even test it, if necessary on criminals who were sentenced to death, kinda like what L wanted to try, before he was killed.

I suppose I don't know enough about the Japanese legal system to know if that would fly. But if it's "secret" they might as well just shoot him and be done with it. Even considering they know about the Note and accept that it works, WAS there any proof Light ever wrote a name in there?

> WAS there any proof Light ever wrote a name in there?
They could easily compare his handwriting, with the one he used during exams and whatnot, it's extremely hard to fake a handwriting, and I doubt Light did that, especially when he first used the Death Note. Plus the fact that his name was the one missing, when the last Kira tried to kill everyone, except Light.

Yes, L was cool, and the best character. Light was a faggot and actually pretty incompetent from the beginning, so it was easy to side with L just because he's the more likeable one. The fact that he's weird appeals to my super autism as well. And it's not like he was a complete moralfag. He was mostly doing everything for himself if I can trust my memory, and Light really did take things too far. Lost control really quickly. I like Near as well, but the anime really rushed the second half. It was still fun overall, but the anime fucked up a lot of stuff for no reason.
>>861308
Mixed feelings about that. It was all part of the plan, so it's not as sad as it could be. That was a really good ending.
>>861324
Did he end up coming back in a new sequel or something or is that just the same old meme? I have no sense of time either, so I don't know when it was.

A movie they made actually had a better ending where L wrote his own name in the notebook without Light knowing, then faked his death when Rem disappeared and Light just screamed "I win" or something in front of L's body, thus confessing. L doesn't actually die immediately because he was the first to write his name. He still dies in a week from what I remember, but he does catch Light without resorting to the edgy autistic 8 year old.
If the anime did that I'd be much more glad. Near and Mellow were such shit characters that they made the show unwatchable. So yeah, I was sad when L died.
>>859422
Agreed. Light made so many terrible mistakes it's unbelievable. Basically every time he killed a non-criminal L got closer to him.
