The barrier of entry is substantially different though. Only the most popular nip games get English translations and learning Japanese is an enormous task when coupled with Kanji. Japan on the other hand definitely gets all the same AAA garbage, plus a lot of indies get translated by volunteers, and they've been learning English since childhood, and English with roman letters is nowhere near as difficult to learn as Japanese is.
