So Hajime no Ippo is somehow still going on past Ippo's retirement. I'm actually quite enjoying seeing him as a second and wanting to live up to Coach Kamogawa (who, unfortunately is surrounded by death flags at the moment).

The comedy was ratcheted up during Kimura's fight which was appreciated. Kumi is still not getting the elephant dong despite some very nice development with her and Ippo.

Speaking of which, Morikawa seems to have forgotten that bit about Ippo, picture related.

All in all, I'd say this manga has been better as of late than it has been in a long time. How do you feel about it? How eternally upset are you that Miyata v. Ippo will never happen because Morikawa realized he hyped it too much to deliver on it?

The show started getting retarded from the Gedo fight. That's where the fights started getting gimmicky like Muh lose gloves, miyata punching faster than the speed of sound on the randy jr. fight and ippo's death tap on wolly. All that retarded build up about muh improved dempsey roll, stretching the punch drunk results for like 50 chapters just to say "hey he's alright" and then get him rekt and confirmed punch drunk. I'm glad i saw the anime and the picked up the mango. Imagine reading from day 1 all the thousands chapters, just to get this shitty development.

Even catching up after a few years, I can't stand how much goddamn time these fights take. I think I'm a patient person but there's no actual flow to them anymore, maybe half of it is taken up by the coaches secretly deciding what'll happen, their massages, or pep talks followed by even more exposition. I can't imagine actually reading this shit week to week.

I'll be a bit more specific about my complaints. You can tell in advance that a punch won't work, because it's not allowed to. Dozens of times by now, the author has gotten the hopes up of the people watching only to "surprise" us. Everyone knows a year in advance that nothing is going to happen here, and it's all filler. There's no exciting counter, either, absolutely nothing happens except the 6th "chess" reference and imagery. It's filler after filler after filler and I've started just skipping entire chapters.
