To kick off the new thread, in no particular order, three mangoes I have enjoyed recently:
Guns and Stamps
Slice of life about a lieutenant in the logistics corps of the Russian military. Set in an alternate history dieselpunk world, during a war with Russia and Poland-Lithuanian vs Turkey. Has been available in Russian for some time, but finally getting English scans.
Pashiri na Boku to Koisuru Banchou
The leader of the delinquent girls confesses to the guy she likes, but he misunderstands and thinks he's been threatened into being her personal servant. Featuring never-before seen amounts of accidental bullying.
Sachiiro no One Room
A stalker kidnaps a highschool girl, and she goes along with it to escape from her abusive family. A bit edgy like only a shoujo romance can be, but also healing.
No.843951
Gakuen Babysitters
Two brothers are orphaned after a plane crash takes the lives of their parents. However, the headmaster of a high school offers to take care of them as she had also lost someone in that crash. In exchange for the hospitality, the older brother must lend a hand in the day care where the teachers leave their children.
I honestly think this is one of those mangas that are actually a government ploy to get people to want children. It may be working because this shit is ADORABLE. Also, can someone explain why a puffy diaper under a toddler's skirt is so damn cute?

Because you know underneath is a soft, warm, virginal, cunny.
The Gakuen Babysitters anime was tragically underappreciated because some people think only pubescent girls can be cute. We literally evolved to think babies are the cutest thing above all else. There's zero fanservice and it's not for lolicons or even toddlercons. It's purely about innocent cuteness, like all wholesome anime should be.

Yeah, can't go full meme on a translation, though I have been enjoying it thus far. It's been hard to recall anything in recent memory that's been more brutal than pumpkin night. Of course, I don't read every horror manga, so I could have easily missed something.
I suppose Kyochuu Rettou comes close, if in a different way with it's bug-based body horror.

Delinquents/Yakuza are being overused to death in manga. They were always a favorite of the public (not mine) but now it seems they got hyper, specially because of unlimited gimmick stories (such as those trannies).
Speaking of which, the manga here features a role reversal, tough girl, pussy guy, which is being hammered all over all faces (like Leo and Fooly?).
Is this a legacy from the worthless MCs from the Harem era? Is this even popular? Like, I've never seen anyone liking this type of MC, on the contrary, they're hated.
Is the "true" audience for this shit real betas who like to project being mentally buttfucked by a girlfriend that is more of a man than themselves?
That aside, people must filter the bullshit "messages", and these can be fully enjoyed. Hell, I myself kinda like them.
I'm just concerned about the motivation behind them, and the defenseless guys who will enter into a world of lies, fake "role models" and impossibilities.
And I'm not exaggerating, look at Japan's Herbivorous Men, the NEET and Hikikomori phenomena, falling birth rates, etc.
I know Manga/Anime is not the sole cause, they're not to blame or be crucified, maybe they're even a consequence, a symptom - we know how fucked up things are, but all this crap poisoning culture (the bad ailments of society blending with anime) is just sad, because it generates an inescapable spiral, sucking you deeper, and getting you used to it.

Personally, I read stuff online as a preview, since I only want to bother downloading series I know I'll want to keep around or reread. Manga is a lot cheaper and easier to make, so if a mangaka produces something that becomes successful he can easily keep producing more as long as there's interest. Making anime is a much bigger undertaking, so only the religiously followed big shounenshit can keep pumping it out indefinitely.
It's actually hard to think of any manga that's made with clear finale in mind, probably for the very reason that if people want more you generally want to allow yourself the ability to make more. Shoujo shuumatsu ryokou is the only one I know of that is definitely made with a clear finale in mind, and that's probably because it isn't exactly pandering to the mainstream. That sort of obscurity is probably where you want to look.

-The vampires are super fucking pointless and why would siding with the aliens help them out? Why would the aliens care about holding up their end of the bargain?
-kei removing his memory is both selfish and pointless when he does it, he still has two people he should revive but chooses the memory wipe option
-The truthers declaration that people reincarnate makes no sense when you consider the gantzer clones, or can they clone souls too?
-People were too emotional when they met the truthers if humanity was such nothing to them then they might as well ask to get their friends revived for free
-Trying to make me feel bad about the giants is retarded when in order for you to have mercy on their non-combatants the whole of humanity must perish. And they're a vicious warriror race, if you think only the strong should survive why should anyone care when your shit gets pushed in?
Overall I liked it but parts dragged on and I might've hated it if I had to read it when it was incomplete.

What's a standard page length for a chapter? When I read Koe no Katachi the chapters were like every 40 pages. I started Berserk and it was 205 pages. Is it totally up to the mangakas creative liberty? or is it dependent on which magazine will publish the length?

I think berserk's case was more of having a super publication at first to immerse readers into the story. The standard seinen monthly magazine chapter length spans from 30 to around 60 pages. The real problem is that manga with definite ends that are also successful (often because they have coherent plot-threads that everyone is excited to see reach completion) tend say "fuck that noise" and go long after their intended destination. It's a tradition at this point. You're not safe with any newly published ones until the end actually happens and the author promises not to bring it back, or at least to make a sequel series in the same universe instead of a continuation.

Typesetting is the sort of thing that can be learned in an afternoon. When it's done badly, it's for a lack of effort and care rather than a lack of ability. I think a lot of groups separate the typesetting from the redrawing though, and redrawing is more difficult. A group may also want you to use Photoshop rather than GIMP.

If it's just typing the speech bubbles, it isn't hard to do. Typesetting wise, the real chore erupts from doing the sound effects because you actually have to pick a good font, move it around and make it fit into the panel without being disrupting, there aren't many groups that go that far tho and even if they do, if you're just the typesetter you're fine anyways. After all, cleaning and redrawing are the real heavy lifting of the scanlation process.
No.849600
>>849586
Redrawing is a completely different skill I think, I can understand why that might be tricky. I actually do graphic design as a job so that's why I can't imagine what could be difficult about typesetting. Google "free fonts" and search "comic" from one of the websites. Make a text box and paste the text in, set alignment to center, change font size until it fits, add/remove hyphens manually if needed, done.
I suppose Gimp doesn't have automatic hyphenation though, nor let you easily add outline to the text or warp it for special situations. Er I mean Gimp is perfect and people only use PS because they can't handle change.
