As the manga goes on, the amount of interaction depicted between Shio and Satou rapidly decreases, Shio is reduced to more of a motive than a character, and quite a few other characters get a lot more screentime than her. Rather than it being frequent contrast between fluffy time at home and Satou dealing with things outside, it's just Satou (and everyone else) doing edgy shit outside while occasionally thinking about the fluffy time that awaits her at home which is often skipped or only shown very briefly.

The biggest issue with the story is that blonde went from rape victim to back on his feet and liking little girls specifically the first one he saw on a missing poster. That has to be the most lazy surefire murdered by Satou setup ever. He could have been far more interesting like becoming a male version of Satou and they become friends through mutual yan romance of little girls. Exchanging info, burning bodies for each other, disposing of stalkers, having double dates, etc would be a dozen times more interesting than where the story is going.

It had a lot of problems to begin with, lazy and painful artstyle from the beginner studio already promised us a poorly regarded project, then the real shit that is the source material hit the fans.
First, queue super edgyness. Second, protag being a special flake and of course nobody can intimade OR overpower her, a school girl. Then comes the fact that when EVERYONE'S a fucking nutjob, having a kinda crazy character has no impact. Their crazyness will also have no impact. Her school life is empty. Without any normal or relatable moments it will just be a showcase of random edgyness.
And then to drive all the mistakes home comes Shio's part. There's no fun thing happening at home, there's no lively moments there, nothing really, just a very cute kid who she loves just because. What are we supposed to get attached to? Also, are we supposed to believe that Satou, being how she is, never "bad touches" (or makes love with in some way) Shio, just because it helps avoiding that taboo that the super edgy author feels like is the one step that's beyond acceptable?

If you think this should be an ecchi series you're missing the point. The common thread among all of the characters is their fucked-up conceptions of love, generally in conflation with lust. The obsessions with Shio aren't supposed to look any more healthy than the other things the characters do. Satou doesn't "make love" with Shio because in her broken mental state, such a thing is fundamentally a contradiction. She was raised to view sex alone as love, and when she found that it wasn't true at all, she recoiled to the other extreme.
Physical love as a supplement to and component of emotional love is excluded not because it isn't acceptable, but because it IS acceptable, and a healthy view of love is the thing these characters lack.

Even the changing scene at Satou's work shortly before that revealed almost nothing.
Besides, when Satou is the main character, and Satou's refusal to go beyond kissing Shio is significant, it doesn't make much narrative sense to then go on and lewd Shio for the viewer.

I think you mean underwhelming. This was apparent to me very early on from about episode 2. I really like yanderes but Satou does nothing interesting at all. Her resolutions to situations is to talk at people and apparently her intimidate stat is so high that people are mind broken by her. The show is so boring and edgy. Its incredibly slow paced with minor events taking episodes to play out and having unsatisfying conclusions that progress nothing.

I refuse to accept an ending based on this mistake for a character who had everything pretty well under control until then.
