It goes a little deeper. If I'm recalling correctly, J.C.Staff has worked more and more with Netflix after they failed to secure the rights to One Punch Man Season 2 and lost out on a lot of profits for their small-time studio. There was some big reddit-tier controversy over it but I wasn't paying attention to that at the time. If we're being completely honest, J.C.Staff is nearly bankrupt right now so this is probably their attempt to get some cash flow into their studio on breadcrumbs while still trying to secure the rights to season 2 of OPM. It just feels more right to blame their relationship with Netflix for this one though.
