Anons, start learning japanese. Even if you don't get proficient at it, any amount will make your anime experience better.

I'm still very much a beginner, but every step of the way you'll notice things.

When I started with kana I was reading sound effects on mango and doujins, loan words that are just katana, and could read some odd hiragana only words here and there.

Now with improved kanji and vocabulary as meager as mine still is I can understand some full sentences, understand more words characters say, and even pick up on some obvious translation fuck ups that shouldn't happen (yes, even with very little knowledge of japanese, just being a fan of anime and manga will make you notice glaring mistakes lazy translators make).

It's not that hard. If you want to get really good at it you need to be strict with kanji reps and practice regularly, but even if that seems like too much, at least learn the kana. The more each average person knows of japanese the less power these faggot translators have.

Seconding this. Even basic knowledge is enough to improve the experience and spot the most glaring mistakes. Occasionally when I forget to turn on subtitles I'll just automatically understand small bits of dialog before noticing. There have been a couple of times I've noticed imperfections or outright errors in the translations.

The hard part about learning Japanese to a decent level is the sheer number of words, plus the fact that Anki reps can become really grueling and tedious after a while. I'm trying to practice using Yotsubato! at the moment, but I find myself having to look up at least half the words.

Thanks, but I've already got that (at least I think it's the same one). I use it a lot, although sometimes I like to look words up on jisho.org just to see what other meanings they might have.

It's definitely a life-saver when it comes to slang or slurred speech. 「おいといて」 (shortened form of 「置いておいて」) is one particularly annoying example I remember struggling to make sense of.

I can put it in technical terms: Web 2.0 was normal HTML+CSS and new things JavaScript, Java applets, and of course Flash on top of it.

Web 3.0 is everything JavaScript with some HTML5 and CSS3 as plaster and made with some framework.

I feel like contributing to this point this anon is raising.

I'm not okay with the continued butchering of Japanese media, but it's not my priority or focus, and as shitty as it is, I accept Horriblesubs with no complaint.

What bugs me personally the most is the quality of western comics, particularly webcomics, and I've actually got a comic going, myself. One that I think acts as a decent example of how to write/execute one decently well, and as a counter statement to the politicization of comics in both directions.

And I'm someone who's riddled with all sorts of mental instability and issues.

The point I'm making isn't "oh wow, look how special Anon is." I'm actively avoiding giving any indicator as to what my comic is, beyond "runs counter to the shit plaguing the industry." My point is that there's a problem with the media I love, I've always had an innate desire to make a comic, since I was little, and I'm doing my part to correct the problems I see in said industry, by putting my nose to the grindstone and accomplishing something that'll help it out.

Before anyone claims being able to read and speak japanese, isn't on par with making an entirely original piece of fictional media, do you have any idea how much of an impact you can have on a translation/fanlation, if you point out

Because let me tell you, it's a huge one. You don't even have to be translating entire series or even vidya, you can just point out a mistranslation and it could very well gain momentum.

It is very much worth learning the language so you can pick up bad translations or untranslatable nuances/expressions/jokes. I started just with purely memorizing hiragana then moved to katakana. Its still a mystery to me how foreign words get often butchered into katakana but thats part of the fun. At this point i'm learning kanji in a completely relaxed manner and learning by grade level. At some point i realized kanji are swell but useless without grammar to form sentences with vocab. Along the way of learning I translated a lewd book since no one had done it yet and its fairly easy since the story is near non-existent and most of the words are trivial. Just doing that alone taught me about how much information is lost in translation. All of this is just the tip of the iceberg for formally learning the language and also where I stopped learning since I can appreciate the huge undertaking in learning japanese.

The new web stuff doesn't have to make websites terrible. In fact, that new web stuff can make your website fucking amazing... IF you're competent and are trying to actually think about what the end user is going to want instead of what sounds like it would be cool. If you're using Angular to develop your web application, it is extremely possible to make a website that is fast, fills up the whole screen, and displays information in a useful and efficient manner, but by far the biggest problem with software engineering at the moment is that UI/UX "developers" (who often don't know a fucking thing about actual software engineering or development) are infatuated with their own asses and the actual developers really don't have a fucking clue how all the backwards ass UI technology works and don't give a fuck about learning it because it's retarded and you can end up spending days on getting dynamic heights to work like dynamic widths.

Essentially, blame pajeets and hipsters. There are plenty of competent developers making competent UIs, they're just busy making actual money instead of competing with the red dot for a lower salary. All the good bois are in the financial sector making bank (literally making banks, too), in the public sector trying (often in vain) to make our government's software less completely backwards and terrible, or working on business logic and algorithms because people have been paying for shitty devs for far too long and have the worst code bases in the world except for all the code bases in all the other countries.

Also keep in mind you should always read the descriptions because some torrents like those from catbox.moe use their own private trackers udp://tracker.uw0.xyz:6969 that can add a few seeders to your torrent and thus make it so you only have to wait three days instead of three weeks to download something completely.
