I never got the feeling Toriyama liked Goku. He constantly tried to shine the spotlight on others, but kept falling back because Goku was a fan-favorite and his iconic image printed money. Vegeta getting more character development than Goku is something that goes all the way back to Namek, and has NEVER STOPPED. Namek, Frieza, the Androids, Cell, Buu... Vegeta changed and grew through all of this, but Goku never did. Goku is static; he just acquires new transformations.

I think he really didn't have anything else for him to go as a character after DB. Hell, he even seemed to regress at some points of DBZ, but especially in Super. Grandpa Goku is the most we can hope for.

I thought it was hinted at that he did finally surpass him at the end of DBS but then the trailer for the shit movie has Goku being the main hero again so that lasted for half an episode. Fucking hell man!

I have to disagree, DBS made Vegeta a lot more likable instead of just angry and edgy all the time they gave him a little more depth which instantly made his character better. If we're just talking about Z then I'd agree since he's pretty unlikable throughout most of it. He had sprinklings of character development here and there but on the whole you'd be right. But now that's changed a bit.

What with the Saiyans all being named after vegetables, I wonder how many people have made Saiyan OCs with that name over the years. I remember a friend of mine did a fancomic with just such a character, something like 12+ years ago. It makes me laugh about how nonsense bullshit that used to be only in fanworks made by edgy teenagers is now what the franchise has become.

what the hell are you smoking? They just kept his one dimensional tsundere character and nothing was added, even during the Zamasu arc he doesnt want to fuse with Goku even tho he knows its temporrary. You DBSfags really are kissing Toriyama's ass and finding "deep stuff" where there isnt one.

I don't even like DBS that much, it's serviceable but the entire series feels like one of the movies because nothing matters and they keep reaching stupid new heights constantly. But in DBS they actually show Vegeta caring about his family, it has a bit of him being silly, and he's markedly less angry than he is in DBZ. I literally just marathoned DBZ in lead up to watching Super and I'm only on episode 58 of that so far and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that Vegeta is far less edgy and one dimensional than he used to be. He's still Vegeta so being a proud asshole is still his character but Toriyama turned that down from a 10 to a 7. I don't actively hate him in this series so far like I did in DBZ where he was consistently annoying.

Vegeta was show to care about his family in DBZ aswell especially during Saiyaman and Buu sagas, honestly i prefered when Vegeta was this killing machine on Namek because it was interesting to have a unredeemable character as enemy of Goku for once, then Toriyama caved in and added him to the Z fighters roster

It showed it a bit but not much. I do kind of agree with you though, an anti-goku type character would have been interesting. But I was just judging the character based on what he is and not what he could be.

I havent watched dragon ball anything in years but i always felt Raditz got an unfair deal in the show.

They brought back nobodies from original db for an episode but raditz never got a mention after the frieza saga.

Its like he doesnt exist.
