Prove me wrong.

The neptunia anime never adapted the game though. It was more of a promotion for the games just by working in a few scenes from the games. If someone made a neptunia anime that actually followed the story of any game it would be interesting.

Cyberdimension would work well or they can do something with the neptunia school LNs.

The games being shit are literally the only thing holding the franchise back. Neptunia has god tier character design but ass tier gameplay. Remove the gameplay and you have something that's actually enjoyable.

>That moment when you actually like the gameplay

The gameplay is perfectly fine and fits the mocking/satirical JRPG elements they want to hit with it as a Visual Novel game with story elements. Seriously though this is a visual novel, not a game. Its only downfall is that there's a ton of grinding involved.

I feel like it would work better as live-action combat instead of turn-based though, and with far less grinding involved..

Neptunia aside, why does any JRPG work like this?

>have a fleshed out expansive setting

>have interesting characters

>have a story that develops the characters and setting

>have god-tier music

<you must kill the same shit repeatedly to get your numbers sufficiently high enough to continue the story

I imagine it has something to do with Nip autism and trying to make games longer so they can justify charging more for them. If the combat elements were seriously reduced, it would reduce the game's length by like 2/3rds. I also think the Japs expect people playing the game to utilize items constantly (I found I was able to get about 4 maps further in Neptune than I was supposed to by utilizing items/raping my monetary assets to death). I get grinding to acquire special items in JRPGs, but I've always found that the best JRPGs implement the [full clear] method of gameplay. That is, it takes exploring 90% of a map or killing all of the enemies on a map once to be able to advance at a significant level without the need to grind at all.

JRPGs haven't been like this for decades now, anon. I can't think of anything from the PS2 era onwards that needed any significant amount of grind to progress, just fighting the random encounters along the way.

Grinding in Neptunia is 100% optional, you can just plow through the games really easily if you know how to abuse the mechanics.

I think it's less about trying to jew people into gaming longer, and more about Nip autism over tradition. There's grinding in JRPGs because it's tradition. A Nip who makes a JRPG without grinding is a Nip who is bucking tradition, and that's looked down upon.

It's ridiculous how pervasive "lol grind" has become. I looked at a GameFAQs walkthrough for Rebirth;1 and its recommended levels were all ten levels higher than what I'd used at that point. People are forgetting basic skills like "buff your allies and debuff your enemies" and "check your equipment". This pic about the first boss fight got a lot of use back then and still applies today.

>basic skills like "buff your allies and debuff your enemies"

I had never heard the words buff and debuff when playing Neptunia the first time. Just used items and grinded until I won. Its not like grinding is bad in these games since theres lots of stuff to unlock and the girls are cute.

You can grind if you want, and if you're an autist like me you're going to if you're going for 100% in these games. That being said, the Neptunia games are pretty broken and have systems in place (both purposefully and accidentally) that allow players to minimize any grinding if they just want to breeze through the game.

Trails in the sky is all that and has combat that's decent.

Unless you are idiot like me and play the game on Lunatic difficulty, then you need to grind both for XP and the CC bar.

>Lunatic

Meant to say Nightmare.
